Default Unlocked BB 9530 (Storm) on AT&T...service book question

Please Login to Remove!

First of all, I am new to this forum and appreciate any advice and help that anyone can provide.

I have an unlocked VZW BB Storm 9530. I can insert my AT&T SIM card and voice and browser works fine. I have an ebterprise data plan, but have yet to connect / sync the BB with BES. That leads me to my questions...

What exactly to the provider service books do?

Currently, my BB is working on AT&T, with the pre-loaded (VZW) service books...should I remove and replace w/ the AT&T service books?

What will that gain?

Should I connect to BES before doing this?

Also, I am running the .75 OS. If I decide to upgrade to .76 (or wait for.83 release) should I do this before or after BES connection?

I really appreciate any and all assistance. Thanks. DD

Welcome to the forum! While someone with much more expertise replies, let me give you my two cents. First off, I did the exact same things as you (went back to the bold for my att but that's another story)...not sure what if any benefit you would acheive by going to the att service books vs. the vzw ones, perhaps certain att specific service books such as the yello pages icon that was recently pushed to my phone...regarding BES...you do not need to upgrade before or after...it's fine either way...I am running .85 right now, .75 is the VZW preferred right now but .85 has been out for quite some time in ¨beta¨ if you will....be careful not to confuse the software out there for the 9500 vs your verizon branded 9530...two totally different phones and their software is not interchangeable..

Once you do decide to upgrade to a new model, you can do your BES activation simply by connecting your phone to your pc via the usb cable while Desktop Manager is connected to your email exchange server...no need to request a new wireless activation password, though you can certainly do that if you prefer.

Hope that helps and again welcome!

Thanks for the response. So I take it you never loaded the ATT service books? I'm not sure whether I will or not.

OK, what differences can you tell between .75 and .85? Would you suggest the upgrade? If so, where can I find it this "beta" version?

Thanks for the tips! DD

I actually did, but really never saw any difference compared to when I was just utilizing the VZW books.

Regarding .75 and .86...the items I've noticed is that it's quicker...changes very quickly from landscape to portait, etc...a little more memory as well. Overall I am very pleased....75 was ok, .65 was HORRIBLE.

Regarding where to find it, this forum has very strict policies about giving out and or asking for links to beta software. Regardless, all you really need to do is google and I guarantee you will find it. My software is Storm 4.7.0.86...hope that helps ;)
