From the company's perspective, yes, the Q10 is the next gen device.

Any BB10 device is a radical departure from traditional BlackBerry operating system. So while it might be the natural progression to go from the 9900 to Q10, to some people it feels completely unnatural. Great device, but is simply does things a new way. I say go for it, but keep your 9900 handy in case the differences are too much for you.

You can't transfer any applications to the Q10. BB10 is a completely different operating system.

You are going to need to look to see if the application has been created for BB10 or look for an Android port.

You can only move them into folders.

True, but even if you delete them, they come back in updates. It's best to just create a folder called "Unused" and move everything you don't want to see into it.

I prefer to call the folder "Junk" but it is your choice.

Drag one icon onto another and hold it. The folder will create.

You can always use the Chrome browser PB/BB10 loader to permanently delete the apps, as well as sideload android apps. Only caveat is you may have to install a particular app over the existing one (like "games" for example) to change it's status from Permanent to removable.

The Q10 is a successor to the 99xx series in that it has a keyboard, but the OS is so different I'm not sure I'd say it's the natural progression. Maybe more an evolution?

I would caution anybody looking to delete core apps. The operating of the os after such folly is unpredictable and often causes the unintended breaking of other apps than may attempt to invoke the deleted app. dc/dc's suggestion to make a folder specifically for unwanted core apps is the smart way to proceed.

It doesn't matter. You can delete what you like. If it's needed by the OS, the next time you cycle your power the icon and app will be pushed to your device.

If it has the option to delete it, then it's safe to do so. Also, after installing a leaked OS, I have deleted my carrier's set of apps. They haven't come back, but they do show up in app world as available.

This may be an improvement in BB10. I recall from my BB5/6/7 days that even deleting a carrier-supplied theme could wreak havoc on a BlackBerry.
