Default Mailbox and Gmail Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I am new to Blackberry and an confused about mailboxes. I have the enhanced Gmail plugin installed and thus have two mail boxes. I hid the Gmail box, since the contents of both boxes are the same it seemed silly to have both of them sitting there. However, things seem to delete faster from the Gmail box when I delete from the web email account, so I am thinking I should perhaps use that instead and hide the standard mailbox. The reason I was reluctant to do this is that the Gmail box does not seem to receive SMS and missed call alerts even though I have the box checked for it to do so under options. Maybe if I uncheck that box in the main mailbox but leave it checked in the Gmail box it will get those messages, but I have yet to try it. Am I doing something wrong or backwards? Sorry, I am very new to this (and mostly having fun).

If it matters, I am on Verizon and have a Tour 9630.

Thanks!

All messages go to the Messages folder and then to a folder for each account.

But if I only have Gmail and nothing else, does it make more sense to hide the default mailbox or the Gmail box?

Depends on you.
If you hide the 'Messages' icon, you'll miss your PIN messages as that's the only place they can go.
If you hide the 'jfjksdj@gmail.com' icon, you won't be able to take advantage of your Enhanced GMail Plug-in, as it only works on the dedicated Gmail icon.

It makes more sense to hide the GMail box instead of the default mailbox because you receive everything - SMS messages, PIN Messages, Phone calls, GMail messages, Facebook messages, and if you Twitter I believe you can set it up so that your new tweets show up in the default mailbox too. If you only use the GMail box you will not see all the other type of messages in the GMail box.

And what if the features of the Enhanced GMail Plugin are important to the user?
They mentioned that in their original post. Hiding the Gmail icon would essentially negate any features of the plugin.

I think I agree with Lonedog and will keep doing what I have been doing and hiding the Gmail mailbox. I really don't much care about being able to add stars or archive messages and when I do, I can always unhide the Gmail box and work from there temporarily.

I just wanted to see if I was missing something in my newbie thinking!

Thanks.
