Default VZW Tour (unlocked) in Germany: no data!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

i recently purchased a used unlocked VZW Tour. Got GSM/3G coverage with my o2 Germany SIM card but i can not get "GPRS" only "gprs", same with 3G, dataconnection seems to be rejected.

I have used this SIM with several BB's ever since i got the BB Option on it.

when i want to set up email through the device there is only a option for BES but i need BIS.
Also adding the device Pin/Imei into o2 BIS returns something like "not allowed for your service provider"...

any idea on how to get this thing to work or do I just need another device?

Have the service books been sent to the BB? Has it been provisioned by your carrier?

No service books send, but i copied them from my old BB thus the HRT is empty. (can not send them manually as the device wont show up in my BIS nor could it be added via change device, PIN/IMEI combination is rejected)
i am not exactly sure what you mean with provisioned by my provider? My Sim card has an active BB Dataplan, worked before with Vodafone Bold, TMO Curve and my old 7290...

I'm guessing that even though the phone is unlocked the PIN has not been released from the VZW database.

You mean it is registered to some account at VZW and thus keeping me from reregistering? So a deregistartion request could help?

if that is what you mean then i have two questions:

i do not know the vzw customer who owned the phone before, isn't it very unlikely that they will deregister "someone elses" account on my behalf? Or is providing Pin/Imei enough proof that i am the new owner of this device?

as i am not american citizen and live in Germany i do not want to call VZW Customer service to issue the deregistration.. Is there any specific email adress @vzw to deal with this request other than their techsupport for mobile devices and if so, has anybody this contact information for me?

You have to get the original owner to request the PIN/IMEI be released. If you can't get it registered with your carrier you can't get a data connection.

if the original owner never used the phone (only unlocked it), does the PIN/IMEI still need to be released?

You only need to have the PIN released if it was previously used on a BIS or BES account.

You also need a properly configured BlackBerry data plan with whatever carrier you use.

Hi there,

As far as I know O2 Germany somehow blocks unlocked US-Tours from using their network with an O2 sim-card.

There are others with US-Tours on the O2 germany network faceing the same problem.

don't know, maybe they want to sell their own devices as soon as they'll hit the stores.

I would call o2 BB support. If they really block traffic for US-Tours, tell them you're as an expat for an american company and this is your work phone (given to you by your company of course);) this normally solves any problems, at least here in switzland.
