Default DM 4.7 continually crashes...

Please Login to Remove!

I've been using Desktop Manager 4.7 w/Media Manager for my older 7100i and now my 8350i without problems for a bit. However, I recently changed laptops to a Dell XFR D630 (from a Lenovo 3000) and have not been able to use Desktop Manager yet. I've already gotten rid of the Toshiba Bluetooth Stacks and replaced them with the Windows XP versions. The results are the DM sees my 8350i and hooks up to it for a split second, then crashes. If I leave it on, DM will crash about 60 seconds later for no reason. Neither of these senerios display an error message; DM simply disappears.

I've looked on this and other forums, including Blackberry's support forum, and have not found how to get DM to stop crashing on my new Dell.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

1. What OS are you running the new laptop?
2. Have you tried a wired sync, just to remove the BlueTooth from the equation?.
3. Any error message?

1) I'm running XP SP2 on a Dell XFR D630
2) Re: wired sync: yes, it still crashes. In this case it will recognize it's a new desktop installation, say it needs to update the 8350i, then begin downloading/updating the unit and then crashes/disappears without warning or errors.
3) No error messages in any of the scenarios.

You may want to do a complete uninstall of 4.7 and try 4.6.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...-software.html

Does the phone charge normally when plugged into a wall charger?

If you run the desktop manager and plug the BB it crashes just sitting there right? You don't have to try and synch or anything for the crash to occur. (I just want to verify, to eliminate any issue with Outlook/Roxio.)

You might want to try desktop manager without Roxio first to see if desktop manager will stabilize.

Steve,
I've completely uninstalled DM 4.7, and installed DM 4.6 w/out Roxio. DM still crashes every time. When I try to link via Bluetooth; crash. Via USB; crash, leave it alone with nothing hooked up to it; crashes in about 45 seconds.

Any other ideas? I really need this to work as it did on my Lenovo! Thx!

I recently reformated my comp and under win XP could not get DM 4.7 or 4.6 to recognize when I installed a new OS for my Blackberry. It would always say 'No updates available.' I am not sure why but DM 4.5 ended up working... Hate to just say keep downgrading till it works, but it was a quick fix for me.

Thanks.. I just uninstalled 4.6, and was about to try 4.5, but the link to it on Blackberry's site is down.... Guess I'll keep trying until I can download 4.5 and give that version a whirl... Anyone have any idea why 4.7 worked fine until I tried in on a Dell D630?

I thought maybe it was crashing due to Dell' Embassy Trust Suite; not so.... After a through uninstall, DM is still crashing!

Since it's begining to appear that I won't be able to use Desktop Manager (any version so far); anyone have any ideas of other programs I could use to sync at least my Blackberry 8350i's calendar & contacts with Outlook 2007?

Thanks!

Desktop is the only sync tool for Outlook.

Have you done the normal windows update after the re-format? Just make sure you are running everything up to date XP SP3, etc?

Yeah, did all the updates. Actually had SP3 on the laptop at one point; interferred with way too many apps (including DM), had to get rid of SP3.

SOMETHING on my system is interfering with DM (any version). Since I've only installed the same apps I had on my last laptop (when DM was working fine), I can't really figure it out....

ok, found something on another post.... it turns out that Sprint's SmartView software may be conflicting with Blackberry's Desktop Manager, any version. Does anyone know of a fix available for this so I can use both programs?

Never heard of SmartView, I would probably just delete it outright.. Do you use it at all?

SmartView is the new version of Sprint's connection manager for WWAN cards. Yeah, I did use it multiple times every day, but now that I've idenified that as the problem, I was forced to downgrade to the older version of the connection manager.

Did it solve your problem with the Desktop Manager? You may want to give Sprint Support call since I am not farmiliar with their software.

DM now works like a charm. The cost: using an older version of Sprint's Sierra Connection Manager for my WWAN card. Easy sacrifice.
