Default Poor Reception Quality, Poor Battery Life

Please Login to Remove!

Hello...

I just switched from a Samsung 807 to the BB Pearl and now my rection/signal strength is terrible. I have called Rogers Wireless and they are unsure...

I do not have the data package as of yet - given wrong information from Rogers. (won't need it as you have the Navigate Plan)

They say that not having the data plan will not affect the signal strength, only the added features of the BB.

At this point, i'm unsure of whether I should keep the BB as I have "no service" where and when I need it. Prior to this, I had good reception from the office to home. Now, I have no service for the most part of the drive.

I live in Elora ON and work in Kitchener. Home of RIM...

Any ideas to increase signal strength?

Will the data plan affect signal strength?

Terrible battery life... could be the "searching for network" I see often.

My wife says that when I called her, the phone was extremely staticy.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Dave

Don't know what the coverage is in your area. Others can chime in on that one as there are plenty of people from Kitchener here. As for the battery life, yes it's because the phone uses more power in weak or no signal areas.

Try a different phone? Maybe your phone is slightly defective...

Try a new phone? Ahhh... the hassles of it all. Won't be easy to pry one away from the dealer. Could be though...

Anyone else have any ideas? Kitchener Waterloo...

I've read on here that the wireless company can "tweak the cell"? Anyone know how this is done? Also read that a new SIM card may help. Mine is only about 3 months old.

do what they've suggested. Ask your retail store to let you switch for another pearl. I don't see any reason why they would refuse. If you're not willing to do that, then good luck.

Upgrade the OS. Rogers may have some old devices with older Operating systems.

I live in Waterloo and work in Waterloo.

I have no trouble with cell reception. For the 1 week I've had the Pearl, I haven't run into a reception problem...

go back to the dealer and get a new Pearl... or compare the signal between your old cell and the Pearl...

you can get detailed signal strength by ALT-RACE

If it's a little off, then that's normal, if the Pearl has significantly weaker signals, then somethings not right...

But Elora... that's middle of nowhere right ? :p

Hehe... Middle of nowhere... Kinda I guess. It's only about 30 minutes from kitchener/Waterloo. Drive it everyday... always have service.

Success! I went back to the dealer and they were actually okay with everything. Salesman just traded out the phone...

Looked at the signal prior - no service. After the trade - 4 bars.

He thought maybe the antennae was the problem. Never the less, I have reception!

Thanks for the help!
