Exclamation TAKE ACTION! Low Volume on VZW 8830

Please Login to Remove!

Hey Guys,
I am an employee of Verizon Wireless, and just bought the 8830 for myself. The first complaint i had (like so many others) was the terrible volume on the ringer even though media player was so loud.
I called into our Tier 2 Tech Support line this morning, and the Blackberry specialist said that this was the first complaint logged in their system for volume issues on that phone. He told me just to swap my phone for another one in stock.
If more people dont call in or go to their stores complaining about the problem, a software patch will take longer to get out and fix this issue.

To call without dealing with the awful automated system, dial this:

18009220204...... enter your 10 digit mobile phone number....once this has cleared, immediately hit 0-0 and you will be taken straight to a living breathing person.
Ask to speak with Tier Two tech preferably a black berry specialist and with in minutes, the complaint will be logged and we will be one step closer to a patch.

The guy on the phone did confirm that it is a software patch on verizon's end that will need to be put out there.

Thanks Guys

Will a software patch fix the echo I hear while talking.
Is anyone else hearing an echo?

My two biggest complaints are the volume, but almost more importantly VIBRATE. That is so awful. I'm going to call shortly.

Can BBs be patched over the air? Or do you need to download and install new software using a PC?

I agree the vibrate and ringer are annoying. I have missed quite a few calls when my phone was not sitting somewhere I could physically see it.

I absolutely love this blackberry, everything about it is sooooo much better than the 7130 I had. The only thing I don't like is the low ringer and lame vibrate, I'm missing calls left and right. I hope they fix this soon!

Follow the steps in the first post and have them log your issue. If they get a ton of complaints maybe Verizon will push for a patch...

I have also seen many post regarding the calendar sync issue. If we are lucky maybe this will get fix as well.

Even though it is lower then my 8703, I still hear the ringer everytime...it's in the holster on the side of my pants.

I use 'classic phone' ringer. What is everyone else using that you can't hear it?

Yup. Had the exact same problem --- took it in a store today and they replaced it, no questions asked. I suggest you do the same, must be a defect

AND -- can we SILENCE the touch tone noises while dialing??!?

Even when the phone is set in quiet mode, these tones are there. And it's annyoing to have to copy and paste a phone number to avoid the tones...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Word around the office is that quarter three will bring VZNavigator to the Motorola Q and our 8830's.that will likely be the only open GPS unless having it unlocks other programs. Very unlikely though.
On another cool side note, the new iTunes Pus files work flawlessly on the 8830 and even show album art in the media player. If I could get Missing Sync and the ring volume to work in my favor it would be the absolute best PDA I've carried.(fifth one in four months....perk of the job ;). )

Moto Q doesn't have a built in GPS does it? If it doesn't then what will be the difference between the 8830 and the Q.. 8830 has a built in "disabled" GPS but if you don't need it to use VZnav.. ??

Angry 8830 Ringer Volume

This is an enormous problem and a reason NOT to buy this phone. The volume (despite) every modification of the settings and ringtone, is WAY TOO SOFT. I mean you cannot hear this thing even it you taped it to your head with duct tape, let alone when it is in the holster and you are in a quiet room. There is NO WAY this phone can wake you up either. Do not buy this phone.

Have you actually tried taping it to your head and listening to the ring? I bet you could hear it! j/k

Seriously - though the phone is quieter than my Treo 700P was, I have to say - I have NO problem hearing the ringer and alerts. In fact - the alerts wake me up quite easily. Maybe I am a light sleeper.

I did have to edit the profile for "loud" and set the volume to high.

I would agree that it should go louder, but the time I mostly miss calls is when it is in my pocket and there is background noise around me.

I found that with my 8830 I was able to go into advanced options under the Profiles menu and create my own ring profile.

When I did I set the volume level to escalating or high and it works fine now.

Originally the phone was set on medium and was very hard to hear. Even the "Loud" profile had this setting set to medium.

I find changing the volume in the advanced settings I don't have trouble hearing the ringers anymore.
