This version will work with BIS 2.5 and HTML email correct. I'm going to do this upgrade if it works as the other 4.5 release for the 8320

have you clicked on the application loader once you have the desktop manager open? Clicking the application loader is what should promot you I think.

I have at least one bug: the red light continues to blink when there are no unread messages/missed calls. A battery pull fixes this but I'm not going to be pulling my battery every time this happens. Oh well, I can live with it since I've fallen in love with HTML email and remote searches through my BES.

This also fixed my "middle of the call" rebooting issue.

Default Upgrade 4.5 problem

To install this software on any 8300:

1. Download and install the latest Desktop Manager.
2. Download and install the OS packaged linked above.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Connect BB, open Desktop Manager and you should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.
I followed the directions. Got to step 4 when I connect to BB and open Desktop Manager nothing happens. I clicked on AppLoader and it is still using 4.2 not 4.5 so doesn't upgrade. I went to Help in the Desktop Manager, then pulled up about and under Device Software I can see both the version 4.2.2.170 and 4.5.0.37. Did I do something wrong?

Thanks.

auntpenn, I know u said u were at step 4 with nothing going on but are you sure you deleted the vendor.xml file? You are doing this from a windows machine right?

maybe someone else can lend some insight on your issue as well.

I have noticed a glitch, not sure if it's my service or the OS but since the install of this latest OS, sending mms messages I get either stuck in the sending position or they dont get sent at all>pull battrey and resend items with a red X and they go through. Annoying but I'm not ditching the OS!

Love having video and voicenotes, guud times!

I'm having the opposite problem as auntpenn. I installed and all is well but every time I start desktop mgr and connect it wants to upgrade again. How do I make this stop?

Thanks for the response. Yes - I triple checked and have deleted the vendor.xml file. I guess I'll just wait a while and try again.

what version of the desktop manager are you using? Maybe that has something to do with it too?

I'm of no help here, I'm afraid!

Default step 4 - no prompt to upgrade

I followed steps 1-4 (installing the file installed a new Vendor.xml dated 6.8.2008 in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader), but there was no prompt to upgrade when Desktop Manager loaded. I tried running Application Loader, but no OS upgrade option there, either.

Installation appeared to run without a hitch, even prompting me to run Desktop Manager

did I miss anything?
