before i used to be able to just press for example "M" and bring my contacts that start with "M" on the home screen, now everytime i do that, it shows them but way at the bottom and it shows a call log, before it used to wipe the log and just show me the contacts... please help...

Do you have call logging enabled?
(phone/options/call logging)
