Default Blackberry Messenger

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all.

On my BB I have two email accounts set-up, my work account (its a work phone) and a personal account.

I am looking to add my friends onto BB Messenger but cant see how to set them up through my personal email, rather than my works email.

Can anyone give me some advise on how to do this please?

You need to add them via their PIN.
Email address adds (to me) are not as reliable.

Thanks for the reply guys.

OK......im pretty dumb when it comes to phones. I know the PIN identifies the phone (or does it), but how would i force it to use my personal email rather than my work email, by using the PIN?

Thanks.

Your PIN is your "Personal Identification Number" of the device, unique ONLY to each BlackBerry. You can find yours at Options > Status, or on the white sticker under the battery or by typing "mypin" in any text field like in an email.

If you are sending email invites to friends to add as a contact in BlackBerry Messenger, it will use THE default email for the device. Don't send email invites. Get the other users PIN, and add them in that manner.

Or give them your PIN and ask them to add you to BBM.

Thanks again for the reply JSanders.

I'm sorry.........but i'm still not grasping how adding a user, by using their pin number, will allow me to stipulate that its my personal email address that is used, rather than the default one (my work email). What am i missing?

You're missing the fact that PIN messaging does not occur over email. It travels over RIM's network. PIN to PIN. No email involved.

Ahhhhh ok........im with you now (i think )

Just to clarify......for my peace of mind. I'll add my mates via PIN, and the communication via messenger will not actually use either of my email addresses?

Thanks, i appreciate you taking the time to explain

Yes, that's correct.

If they don't have BBM installed though your default mail (CMIME) would be used to invite them to download the app so they can add you. So although JSanders and jsconyers are correct that PIN invites go directly over RIM's infrastructure you'll STILL mail them in that case.
