Sad part is that the parody is more realistic than the actual ad. I wonder if the guy in the real commercial was an actual pilot or an actor. If the guy is an actor does that mean that iPhonys can help you make your imaginary world better?

i may disagree with some sentiments in this thread but i found this and thought everyone would enjoy the story. The pilot put this guy in his place.

I agree, the problem is that some of the most effective commercials are the ones that annoy us or get stuck in our heads. They do their job whether people like them or not.

Take for example the Head-On commercials, I for one hate them but they are very effective because most people know them.

ps and if you don't:YouTube - HEADON! Apply directly to the forehead!

My daughter is taking an advertising class at UT this semester and we discussed the iPhony ad last night on her way home for Thanksgiving. One of the rules of advertising, according to what she said, is not to use any common sense in advertising. This explains a lot.

Seriously guys, The iPhone is then end-all of all PDA devices. My iPhone not only tells me when the flight can leave, it flies the plane too!

As a person who does customer service for blackberry users on a daily basis, i think that the iphone commercials are geared toward regular, everyday people, who think that the simple things count with technology. Think about it - just the basic design of the iphones is what catches your eye if you've never seen one. my parents are near 50 years old, hate technology, and have had the both the same exact samsung cell phones since 1997, and the same sprint plans since the original account was opened in 1997. their current phones can make/receive calls, sms texts, and have things like calendar/alarm as well, and they've refused to upgrade in 10 years because that's all they need. but from seeing the iphone commercials and one trip to the apple store they're (as well as myself) hooked. Now don't get me wrong, all three of us think that $399.99 (or $599.99), plus ATT plans are WAY too much to pay for the phone. Plus, since we all have sprint, we'd have to port numbers which can be a nightmare with sprint, and i'd have to pay a cancellation fee. So like I said, the iphones are great pieces of technology, but give them time. it's great for competition between all the mobile carriers like sprint, verizon, tmobile, and the more regional carriers as well to push for better phones, technology, and things like that. not everyone wants a blackberry, not everyone needs "instant" email and bes servers and blackberry messenger.

I'd like to think that the people who are in charge of managing the weather for the planes in the air, would have a better idea of weather patterns then a pilot with an Iphone.

What the commercial doesn't tell you is that there is a proprietary app which can only be loaded on the iPhone to cause an air traffic controller to turn his head 45 deg to the left to look at the huge NOAA weather radar display right next to him instead of watching actual air traffic.

Like I have mentioned before, all of Apple's products target the people who don't know any better. To these poor souls, if it looks cool, it doesnt matter what it can and cant do. Im going off on a tangent here, but look at the ridiculous Macbook Air. Completely pointless computer, nothing at all special, and nothing at all new except for it's ability to do less than nothing. But hey, that's apple for you. Do you expect anything less with a phone? Apple isnt going to fool me. They overcharge for the ability to underutilize. Everyone of their commercials is pointless. It's like political ads. They don't tell you what they are going to do for you, they attack the opponent. The iPhone has people beLIEving that they are going to be able to do things in a special way now. I guess you have the technology you want. Im glad I wanted the good stuff, and got a blackberry.
