Default at&t or Cingular Network ID showing?

Please Login to Remove!

We have an 8700c running 4.2.2 and a Red Pearl running 4.2.2 as well. The Pearl says at&t now a days since about 2 weeks ago, but the 8700c still says Cingular. Anyone else seeing similar results? I am also in the LA/SoCal area.....

Talked to Cingular about this. This is being done as they update the towers. Certain devices are showing at&t and others are showing Cingular. I think this is based on Firmware being released on the devices from the factory via carrier.

I say this because the only devices that I have seen at&t are our new users with their Pearls. Most of my 8700, older pearls and 7130 users are still showing Cingular when standing side by side.

Give it about 6 months and they will all show at&t after they upgrade all the towers in your particular area.

It's weird like that. Noone can seem to tell any of us the logical thought pattern to how it works.

Then again if at&t / cingular did anything that made sense a lot more people would be with them. All in all it doesn't mean any difference, just a matter of how the phone happens to register against the towers name. Mine has shifted depending on the day. Will sit on the same spot of my desk every single day and one day will register at&t and most days Cingular.

Joys of mergers.

That's weird. My 7290 hasn't flip-flopped at all. Well, that's not exactly true. When I first put the SIM in the 7290, it said Cingular until I subscribed to BIS, then it switched to AT&T. Hasn't changed since.

I wonder when our blackberry.net addys are going to change?

Not sure. Maybe it has to do with the BB accessing the data portion and the voice side hasn't been updated with the new tower details, since more people would notice that.

New Pearl shows AT&T. Phone it replaced showed Cingular only minutes before the Pearl activation.

Must be based on registering on the towers data network then. So I guess a fair assessment would be that whatever tower you activate against will determine how other towers will 'label' your device when transmitting.

The enigma that is Cellphone companies continues.

If you want to force the change from Cingular to ATT - call and make some small change to your account. I added Telenav a few weeks ago and my pearl showed ATT within a few hours.

Does it really make a difference? For the life of me I can't fathom why this name change is getting so much attention. The branding on the phone is still going to say CINGULAR!

I think you may be right. Got our Curves today. It said Cingular on the new Curve until I made a change. And I thought it was sim card coded, because when I had my old sim card in the Curve it said Cingular, but the new sim card makes the Curve say AT&T, maybe thats it? Who knows w this company...
