This is (sadly perhaps) quite normal. BES set-up & connection is indeed lost after an OS upgrade. I usually do them on a Sunday night ... and then call my corporate IT folks the next (Monday) morning to re-connect and re-establish my enterprise set-up with the corporate BES. There (currently) does not seem to be a way around this happening ... unless someone out there knows a secret???

BTW - BIS is "not" similarly affected and if you are on BES and have also set-up some personal (POP3) email accounts, those should continue to function after an OS upgrade.

I gave you the secret.
Be connected to your network (either locally or via VPN) and the EA automatically is reestablished. I have NEVER had to have IS get involved.

Hmm ... thank you. I actually did try your method when upgrading from 4.2.0.64 to 4.2.0.67 and I did lose my BES connection and had to have IT re-establish it???

Do others have successful experience using NJBlackBerry's method? ... especially connection over a personal 802.11 router and VPN to your corporate network???

NJBB - I will try it again next week-end when upgrading to this new release ///

Default never had to get IT involved so far

I have gone through about a dozen upgrades so far between my 8700 and the 8100. Laptop has always been connected to the internet during the upgrades, the enterprise activation gets done in a few minutes automatically (has taken up to 20 minutes once), and the service books always get pushed from the carrier. No problems.

I have read about issues with 802.11 routers but I've never had a problem with mine. I use a linksys router and company vpn site and it's always worked. Did Desktop Manager say "Connected" and "Online?" If it says "offline" it won't work.

Cool. We'll assume; for now ... that it was my user error! I will try again.

My IT folks have also (via BES) locked down all downloads and installs, it is only an OS upgrade that I'm even able to do ///

Can you tell me what this means? Maybe I am missing something that will help me speed up my 8100. Thanks.

If you go to the media Icon, select it then select one of the media items, click on the menu and you will see Option in there, select and there you get to the settings for device memory limit for media and reserved picture limit.

It seems that there is considerable variation with upgrading OS and BES connections. I was connected to the email etc. of the enterprise server, it never reconnected. It has now been 2 hours since I posted the email with my experience. For some it may work, for others evidently it does not, and people obe very careful if they have not done this before. I forgot to mention, I also lost all the software I had downloaded (eOffice....I'll see if I can reconnect with these again....)

NJBB "I gave you the secret. Be connected to your network (either locally or via VPN) and the EA automatically is reestablished. I have NEVER had to have IS get involved."

Kudos to NJBlackBerry et all /// Now on the latest, have all of the unlocked themes and never lost my BES registration/connection or any data/programs whatsoever!!!

What's the difference in using jibi's .alx thingy vs deleting the vendor.xml?

Removing the vendor will allow the install of another vendor's release. Replacing the ALX with Jibi's version will open the themes that are there for any other provider.

I tried originally in my opera browser and maybe that was the problem. I tried again in IE and the link came up.

I'd like some info on what this version does/fixes. As far as I've been able to read here, nothing over Tmob version .64. I mean if all it does are the usual "minor bug fixes" it would be like "upgrading" to .69 or that Mexican update that blew through here awhile back that didn't help anyone. Then you get the usual problems updating, losing stuff, freezing. I'll wait. I figure that if something was really fixed/added they'd say something about it.

t could be memory fix and it sure can be because of PTT after they sfinalized the PTT agreement with Kodiak last week.

Yeah, I think it's just a help for Cingular PTT users, if anyone. Noone at Pinstack has noticed anything either( except their browsers disappear!)
