Hi Everyone,

I am a completely new blackberry user. I converted from the iphone 4 about a week ago as I was tired of being charged stupid amounts a month just to have an iphone.
A few friends have blackberry's and said to give it a try and I did! I have the bold 9900.

Now, as a new user I really don't understand half of the phone yet, but I do have a few niggles.
Mainly with text messages. 90% of the time I get half of the text with something after saying [Receiving text] Then about an hour later I will receive the rest of the text... Extremely annoying!? I have a read a few people saying this is an OS issue, and to update.

If I try and update through the phone, it says it's all up to date. From what I can work out my version is as follows;

7.0 bundle 1465 (v7.0.0.296, Platform 5.0.0.496)

Is there a further update to this that can rectify the issue? If so, how do I go about getting/installing. I did read a sticky on the forum about an update, but I'm not sure if it's the right/newer version or not, and it also said it was a New Zealand download. (I'm UK).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the sticky at the top of the 9900 section for the latest OS update. The best way to do an OS update is to use Desktop Manager and the app loader. See our instructions on doing an upgrade in the same sticky as you find the OS. The latest 9900 OS is .317.

Text message problems are generally carrier related, and only sometimes fixed with an OS update. Have you searched your specific problem to find a solution? I would do that and also talk to your carrier before attempting an OS update, especially if you are new to BBs.

You can install any OS version as long as it is for your specific device, i.e. you cannot put a 9930 OS on a 9900. They all come from RIM and will work with your device.

Ok - well I did the update as instructed.
However encountered the following error during one of the final processes;

A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again.

Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000024]

The phone started up fine after this and appears to have updated the os.
However it hasn't restored my info that it backed up during the process. I have my media files, it just seems to be messages/emails/contact/settings.

Any ideas how I get these back?? It will be a pain trying to get my contacts back.

And no - my phone is not already backed up through the desktop software, like I said, ive only had it for a week.
When the process started it said it was backing everything up - surely this file must be somewhere??
