Default Saving Attachments to the SD Card

Please Login to Remove!

Is there any BB software (for purchase or free) that lets you save selected email attachments to any location your BB device / SD Card?

For example, something that does this:

1. An email is sent to you that contains attachments. It does not matter what type (pdf, doc, xls, gpx, etc).
2. You bring up the email and press the menu button
3. An option is in the menu list that says something like, "Save Attachments".
4. You select the "Save Attachments" option and it presents you with a list of attachments and a check box next to each one.
5. You tick on / off the files you wish to save
6. You press a "Save" button at the bottom of the list that then takes you to an explorer type window so that you select the file path to save the selected files.
7. The selected files are saved into the selected file path.

This would allow me to, for example, save my geocaching files to my sd card, which I could then import into CacheBerry. Or for text files that I can then read via Rove's Mobile file manager. Or for files that I just want to stick on my SD Card for future use or for backup.

Thanks for the feedback.

Doug

BeamBerry does this in a round about way. However, it only supports certain file types. You can save an attachment to a My Documents folder on their server. Then you can move the file from the My Documents to your card.

Yes, and I just purchased BeamBerry for that reason as well as for the excellent PDF viewer. But I'm still frustrated that I can save other file types such as gpx, txt, etc. I also can't save images (that I know of).

Is it that there is no demand for such an application or that to develop it for the BB would just be a nightmare?

Thanks for the reply, John.

ps - Funny, my really good friend's name is "John Clark". He's a real quirky lawyer who is an absolute hoot to be around and can answer every Jeopardy question. He drives me crazy! Seeing your name around this forum reminds me of my friend. Hey .... wait a minute .... you're not him are you?!?!?!?!

I'm a pilot, not a lawyer so I'd have to say I'm not him!

Gridmagic, which has a free version, can save and edit excel attachments. I believe it is limited to spreadsheets IN MEMORY and may not support SD cards.

MediaPOP can save any attachment to the SD card from a BIS/POP account.

When I tried MediaPOP, it disabled the ability to open some attachments (e.g., .wav) from the RIM Messages app -- IMO, it still needs some tweaking.

Default Looks like the problem is solved!

I just noticed that "Download Attachment" is now an option, which allows me to download any file attachment (regardless of type) to my BB (SD card). Not sure if this is directly related to the recent BIS upgrade, but it solves one of my biggest issues.

I use a corporate BES and it seems that Docs to go both standard or premium will not allow you to save email attachments to the SD card. With the trial version of Premium, I can't send newly created .docs and I get an error that says Service does not support this document format.

Then why do I still not have the "save attachment" option while viewing an email?
