Question O2 3G no push?

Please Login to Remove!

This week I have noticed that emails do not appear as quickly on my 9000 Bold as on my PC as they have done before.
If I make a call or send an email from the BB then the service seems to "wake up" and outstanding emails come through. Spoke to O2 helpline and in consultation with their BB support they said it was because I was using 3G and that they support Edge or GPRS for push emails. They want me to call back on landline so they can change my settings.
Is this all about iPhone swamping 3G network and why would I want to restrict my BB from using 3G to slower internet etc?

You can get email push on 3G, however, the tower you are on at the time, may be congested (with any 3G phone user) and so will prioritise those on an active connection (browsing, pages constantly being loaded) over those connections which are intermitant (push mail an example of this).

That strikes me as odd?

3g works fine for push on Vodafone ( a friend has a 8520 set to 3g on Voda ) also works fine on orange on an 9000.

I think I can smell a bit of BS on o2s part as it should work over any IP network, shouldnt make any difference if its GPRS/EDGE, WCDMA or WiFi.

MidnightDraven, thats unlikely to be the issue if he is encountering it everywhere. O2 probably have some technical oddity with their 3g network they havent worked out, seeing as it works fine on other networks.

Try a 30-second battery pull on the BB and see if that sorts out the slow email.

OK Thanks. Seems to have been resolved with longggggg help call to fourth O2 support person! Their explanation was that when in a bad signal area the Blackberry server changes the poll time from every 10 mins to a longer period of say 40 mins or an hour. It should reset later and hadn't. This time no mention of resetting to 2G only. They had me go to the Host Routing Table in Advanced Options and selecting Register Now. Some test emails from them to my email addresses and it was fixed!

The 8520 isn't 3G as far as I know?
