Let's go RIM... The SMS issue should not have even made it to an official release. Sloppy, sloppy QC.

If you have specal characters (formatting) in the phone number, the name doesn't show in an SMS text.

For example, +1 (999) 555-1212 for person "Dad" shows up as +1 (999) 555-1212

Workaround is to change the number to +19995551212 in your Contacts, which stinks.

numbers stored with dashes, ie (xxx)-xxx-xxxx don't show contact names, just the number

Thanks for clearing that up. I must not have any numbers stored that way.

This is not a universal bug. All of my numbers are formatted, and yet I have no SMS issues. There is something else in the mix that is causing this problem.

This OS goes even further. My SMS was fine with .351. My contacts are listed in the format 5555555555 and now my SMS messages are showing up as 15555555555. I changed the contact to 15555555555 and +15555555555 and no luck. Still doesn't show contact names.

I don't understand this part,

If you want your number to show as "Dad", then why sacrifice inputting special characters like "(999)" for?

Workaround should simply be NOT to type the special characters in. I know we want it all but sometimes we can't have it all.

This version doesn't have a workaround. No matter what format I have my contact numbers in, I'm still getting 19995551212 in SMS.

Huh?
There's a bug in the code, and the only way around it is to remove formatting. That's not the solution. The solution is properly behaving code. But we don't have that now.

Yep - even worse!

Lots of changes in the way Country Codes are handled. Might be part of the problem. Check out Phone Log / Options / Smart Dialing. No more Country Code entry - it' a table lookup.

Downgraded back to .351 and my contact names are back in SMS.
