Default Which OS

Please Login to Remove!

I wasn't sure if I should post this in here or the Beta forum. But I recently purchased the Tour from Verizon and was wondering what the overall best (between beta and official release) OS version is. I have no fear using beta software, I just want to make sure everything works.

Thanks Guys,
Mike

If you just got the device, why not wait before you try to fix it? You might find that it works the way you want and need and that it isn't broken.

Play with it. Use it. Set it up to work for you. Then if something doesn't work right, then maybe consider an OS upgrade.

I have been playing with it, and have noticed the intermitten gps problem. I use gps ALOT for work, as I have to find places I have never been before. I have read that this is a software issue, which is why I was inquiring about which OS was best.

What problems are you having with it? What software app are you using for the map app. Are you sure the issues are related to the device itself?

Check our GPS & Mapping Section.

However, IMHO, if you depend on GPS that much, maybe you need to consider getting a stand alone GPS device from Garmin or one of the other vendors. Doesn't use data so if you don't have a cell signal, it still works. Costs have really come down and they actually are much better for navigation than trying to use the small screen on BB or other such device.

I temporarily used the Beta for the Tour and lost a lot of functionality on my device. Sure, it was faster, had more memory, threaded SMS,etc. - but the GPS programs were some of the main things I suffered from losing. I have Sprint Navigation, been using it for years on various devices and it no longer worked with the Beta. Also, Google Maps kept deciding it didn't want to find my location and Poynt had limited function.

i use the beta 5 on my curve. no problem using google. problem with standalone units is all it does is gps. with google, u basically have 411. meaning u can find businesses and phone numbers. a lot more features that make google nicer then using standalone units.

and google has updated software. version 3.2.0 is the latest. it does have a quirk getting setup on 5. but once setup. works better then version 3.0.2

i've noticed some basic features missing on tour. microsoft live doesn't work on both v and s carrier. no facebook icon. or call log icon. so all call logs are mixxed with email on the same messages icon. even though there a email icon. and no themes loaded in phone to change. so i can have all my icons on one screen. like i have on my curve. instead of having to go to downloads or apps folder.

going to upgrade the tour to 5.0. even though its beta still. i not liking the tour compare to the curve, which has been out 18 months longer. i did't like the 4 software but the tour really sucks.
