Default 1 Year Contract or 2?

Please Login to Remove!

I see that for only $70 more I can buy the Storm on a one year contract? With technology changing as quickly as it does, isn't that a better option?

$70 does seem cheap to have the latest and greatest after a year

Default Verizon

If it is with Verizon (I assume it is given you are in the Storm thread) then they have a new every two program.
You can get a new phone cheaper or free dependent on the phone chosen.
Of course you could always re up your 1 year contract and not get as good a deal on the phone you choose next time.
I do the new every two and I can upgrade within 1.5 years typically.
I ordered the storm last Friday when it came out and I still have 6 months left on my contract.
My total was $214.00 and it shipped Monday.

I went for a 1 year deal, $70 more and only one year more to your contract is a better deal if you tend to switch to the latest and greatest often.

Basically, it comes down to this:

If you are an early adaptor of devices, and always want the latest and greatest, or if you think you may want to try a different carrier after a year, a one year contract is the way to go.

If getting the deeper discount on the cost of a device is more important to you than either of the above, then go with the two year deal.

What I am thinking is that I have a much better chance of the phone surviving one year (as short as 10 months in the minds of Verizon) that I do two years (damage, loss, etc). So paying the extra $70 upfront is better than $5 a month for the extra insurance (which carries a fifty dollar deductible). Is that logical?

Seeing that RIM just made 3 new devices (Pearl Flip, Storm, & Bold) since the Curve last year, there is a high possibility of a new device from them in a year.
