Default Tmo killing SIM cards?

Please Login to Remove!

Was looking around the net for OS 4.5.0.42 and I came across a post (on a site that shall remain nameless) saying that Tmo can see/monitor what OS you are using and deactivate your sim card if its an unreleased beta or something. Sounds like BS to me but better safe than sorry.. Is this true?

I've been running 4.5 on TMO for about a week now with no trouble.

Moving to the beta forum. Several reports of SIM cards burning up, but I don't see any conspiracy or black helicopters (or pink ones either)...

TMo themeselves are testing 4.5 versions...likely .37 and newer. They are not purposely killing sim cards. Sim cards were getting damaged with .37 but with .42 it doesn't seem like it's as big of a problem.

I only know of one reported case of sim card failure with OS 4.5.0.42. I've not seen anymore than that one. And considering the user who it happened to....anything is possible!

My sim failed catastrophically using .37 after about a week. The TMO store couldn't even read it to clone it over to a new card (which they gave me for free - thanks, TMO!). But it's highly doubtful they are somehow killing these like the cable companies used to do with pirated cards. Totally different reasons.

I think what happened was that I left the phone on overnight while hooked up to the charger, and more than likely some power management issue accidently fried the SIM. Ever since I've been turning the phone off overnight and when charging for long periods, and so far so good.

My SIM card was fried when it was sitting on a nightstand not plugged in...
