Default Need help: Can my Blackberry send a vCard

Please Login to Remove!

At least once a day I want to email a contact record to someone from my Blackberry. When I attach an address to an email message, it sends the contact record as a .dat file, which can't be opened by Outlook.

Is there some process that I am missing which allows the transmission of a pure vCard.

What is a .dat file anyway.

Appreciate any input on this ..

Click the thumbwheel while composing email message and select "Attach Address".

That works for me, it sends a vcard attachment. (I am not sure if this is a BlackberryOS 4.0 feature; as I am using 4.0.0.100)

Unfortuately all I get is the .dat file when I do this ..

I'm a T-Mobile user and I don't use the enterprise software .. I wonder if this has something to do with it .. also on Version 3.7.141 ..

Oh right, yes, you're right.

It does not send a VCard if I send through BWC on my BlackBerry. I guess that's another advantage of using BES or BES Hosting?

Is there any solution to this then, other than using the BES .. for my part, I can't justify using BES just for the convenience of sending a vCards ..

I think that it still works over the BWC if you send to another Blackberry...not great, but better than nothing...

OK .. not looking good .. appears that for the time being, until there is a change to the BWC, vCards are not an option when sending to non-Blackberry recipients :(

Thanks for all the input on this ..

Default Any updates on this?

I just tried it with my 7100i and same dat problem with BWC... Is there anyway to save a vcard sent from Outlook to my Blackberry and then email that out on an as needed basis? It seems that after a few days I cannot forward my saved emails with attachements or any saved emails for that matter as I get a red "X" upon attempting a forward...

Thank you...

you know what's kinda funny? sk3's are able to send/recieve vcards in proper .vcf format through tmobile, while a blackberry through tmobile(bwc) can't.

the irony.

Hi folks,

some years too late but YES! There is a program that allows you to send contacts and appointents as vCard, vCalendar and iCalendar attachments. There is a good article on this:

Use vCard, vCalendar, iCalendar attachments with your BlackBerry
