im looking at buying my first Blackberry.

Ive have looked at the Blackberry curve 8520 and think this is a good starter for what i want.

Is this a good model ?

do you get free internet like on the iphone and also can you use Hotmail, do you get charged for sending emails ?

Thank you for your help.

You can use the Wi-Fi on the 8520 for web surfing, but you won't be able to get the BlackBerry email without purchasing a BlackBerry data plan. More and more carriers are actually starting to require data plans with smartphone purchases, so check with your carrier to see if that is a requirement.

The BlackBerry and iPhone data plans aren't fully interchangeable. You may be able to get some features to work, but not everything. You would get phone and SMS ability, but email won't work without a BlackBerry data plan. Not sure about web browsing.

I recommend adding the BlackBerry data plan to your account in order to fully utilize the device.
