Default Wiping a blackberry via a BES and, reusing the same phone number

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks,

Here is the senario I need clarification on...

A user looses their bberry.
We send the wipe command via the BES but, the stolen bberry is off or otherwise unavailable (no battery charge?)
We buy the user another bberry. for consistancy, we re-use the same phone number.

The question is... if the "old" stolen bberry is NOT wiped (i.e. the battery never gets charged), does the "new" bberry, the one that now has the same phone number on it (transfered by the carrier) recieve that old queued wipe command.

Or does the BES know by ESN or similar ID number the difference between the old bberry and the new one... and thus the wipe command is specific to the device and doesn't follow the phone number.

Thanks a bunch for any help. This is my first message. This site looks great.

No. The BES does not send a wipe command based on SIM phone number.

It uses IMEI and PIN data.

A BES doesn't base any commands on SIM phone number AFAIK...

Also, I believe once the new device is activated with the new user, the wipe command is killed for the lost/stolen device, even if the old device still had an active account with the provider.

So all you can hope is that there was a password on the lost/stolen device and that it will be wiped after 10 attempts anyway.
