Default WIFI, UMA, EDGE confusion!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey Guys,

Sorry if this has been covered before, but after searching I am still confused! I just got my 8320 and the only services I have it with is the Unlimited BB data plan. So, if I have this plan....

1. And I want to browse the web with WIFI at home, will I get charged? Or will it only use my alloted minutes?

2. What is UMA? I connected my BB 8320 via WIFI to my home router, and I dont see "UMA" on the top right corner. All I see is EDGE. I have read that if you switch from an older BB to the Curve, you may have to wipe out all your data, but I received a new SIM card and it has never been in any other BBs but the Curve. Will I still have to wipe my settings? Or am I doing something wrong?

I hope someone can help me answer all these questions.

Tuan

Default

1. Browsing never uses minutes. Browsing is data. If you have the unlimited plan, browsing doesn't really matter.

2. UMA (Generic Access Network - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) is basically voice over the WiFi network.

If you used the Switch Device Wizard to bring over data and settings form another BlackBerry, UMA will fail. If you do a full backup and restore, UMA will fail. Please check out Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ
