No, you can have them both installed at the same time.

Before downloading this program Make Sure You Backup You Phone I lost about 4 months worth of numbers and messages.

Other then that it rocks I love the new features.

John Clark-

I upgraded to 4.5.0.134/4.5.0.99 last night. It all worked.

Then, I followed "method # 1" to remove the firewall that was left over from an old IT policy. I backed up and used JL_Cmder to resettofactory. That worked. The firewall was gone. However, when I restored my data, the firewall restriction came right back. What went wrong?

Also, most of the icons associated with my 3rd party apps look horrible now, as the pixels are all blurry. Is there an easy fix for that?

John - Sorry, one last question ...

If the only themes I plan on using are the Dimension Zen or Dimension L, is it safe to delete the Dimension Icon and Dimension Today?

Why would you do that?

For the same reason anybody deletes anything ... to make more room. If I never plan on using any other themes, it makes sense to delete them as long as it's safe to do so.

i got error 507 on my bb 8100 now. I had to hurry and cancel while it was erasing applications to run to a fam emergency. I used jl commander and wiped the phone. I tried using it to restore it to factory settings and no go. I made a full backup prior to the updated os, but my desktop manager but for device connected(PIN) it says none? I clicked on the none and set it to usb and no change. I am using desktop manager 4.6 2008. How can i get desktop manager to find the phone when its plugged into the usb port so i can restore it how it was? im having no luck with the search option.

THANKS A TON!!

Upgraded my Pearl to 4.5.0.99 last Thursday. Used DesktopManager 4.5. Nice work! Don't have any issues with it. Plus BB browser works through internet.mts.ru APN now, instead of wap.mts.ru in previous OS build (my last was 4.5.0.55). So I can provide more OTA downloads without astronomic bills for data usage!

I upgraded from 4.5.0.81 this morning. The device seems much faster. I see the hourglass a lot less. I don't see any issues at this point.

I have quoted this message for a question upgrating to this last os:

if I wipe all out with JL_Cmder and reinstall this last os, will my carrier BIS setting be automaticaly appilied after a "my-backups" restore or do I have to contact my carrier call center and ask them to send me another activation message?

I have to enable the firewall to use correctly a couples of apps on my BB (Windows Live Messenger and BBToday..)
if I wipe everything away with JL_Cmder like GadgetGuru72 says above, will I still have my firewall to enable or will I lose that option and so the ability to enable it??

last thing, you say that is better not to bing firewall and application permissions settings to the new os installation...why?!?!? if my BB is working fine but would like to upgrade the OS to have the OS improvements, how is it better to configure firewall and application permissions?
is it the best to re-enable them manually as I did the first time for each software, or shall I trust old os backup to restore?
(I have to say that I realy have just afew apps installed..It can take me 10 min to set permissions for them all up again....)

plase help me undersand what is this firewall thing because I don't understand what you mean and what do I have to do with my backups.

thank you!

Pirata,
Just follow the instructions in the first post. All will be well.

The post you quoted has to do with removing IT policy. You don't have IT Policy, so ignore it.

Oh..thank you then.

So there is no need to wipe everything all up with JL_Cmder
Before installing the new OS?

Thank you

No, just follow the instructions. JL_Cmder is the most overused (and abused) application on this forum.

Mmmmmm...and so the DM will erase the old OS away before installing this new one, right?

Last thing..if I decide not to install some OS features that I had installed with the old one, will they be erased or will they be keeped as like for the 3rd party apps?

Right about thr 3rd party apps,if I understood right, they should not be erased by the DM and so they should be there once again after the OS upgrade with all the old permissions settled..right??

Ps:can some one please tell me what features are the PushToTalk one and the DOD certificates? I really don't know how to use them and would like to understand if will I ever use them..

Thank you for every thing

I just did the upgrade on my TMO 8100. Yes I was a hold out using TMO's posted v4.2.1.107. The install went flawlessly and all I can say is wow! What an improvement from TMO's 4.2.

Thanks for this forum, where is the donation link?
