I don't know that I've seen Vodafone HK software, right now the only chinese firmware that I've seen is the Hong Kong CSL firmware available in the Blackberry 4.0 software thread. It can be loaded by deleting the vendor.xml file. (Do a search in your c:\program files folder for it and delete it) Then when you launch the desktop manager it will prompt you to load the hong kong csl firmware. Then you can load the vodafone theme on it if you like using the themes link they have here.

Hi all,
I am a newbie..just got my 7230 with t-mobile two days ago. I did downloaded and installed the software from hkcsl. However, right now, I could type chinese in emails, however, I can't read any chinese in any incoming emails. Even I typed couple words in the email and send it to myself, I CAN NOT read it. Anyone can help??

There are 2 addition font packs, one for China and the other for Taiwan character set. Did you installed the fonts that comes along with the package. Unless you installed the Hanyu Pingyi, then the above is not applicable. Hope this help.

T-Mobile servers seem to block or transform double-byte character transmissions. Either your 7290 will not receive it, or the Chinese characters will appear as blocks or question marks. I wasted literally eight hours talking to T-Mobile technical support people trying to get a straight answer. I finally gave up, and I am seriously thinking about dumping T-Mobile. Here's the idiot problem. A T-Mobile device cannot send or receive Chinese characters, yet a roaming device (e.g. from Smartone Hong Kong) can send or receive Chinese characters while roaming on the T-Mobile network. I suspect that the T-Mobile SMS servers strip a bit and convert all 8-bit transmissions into 7 bits. My BlackBerry 7290 will not even receive an SMS message if it contains Chinese characters. My friend's non-BlackBerry mobile phone receives such an SMS with all the Chinese characters converted into little blocks. Idiot T-Mobile.

If you receive Chinese characters on a TMO non-BB phone, then it is not TMO's SMS server. Have you tried email instead of SMS?
