Default Battery dying too fast

Please Login to Remove!

Is there a quick and easy way to figure out which apps are eating my battery up so fast?

Just recently I've noticed my battery draining a lot faster than usual.

I get to work at 10am and when I get home at around 8pm, I have 15% or less battery left.

I make maybe 3 calls during the day for 15 minutes or less and I use blackberry messenger.

I can't figure out what would be using so much data.

I have bluetooth disabled.

It has a full charge when I leave for work.

What applications do you have running in the background?

Hit the menu key and then select "Switch applications". Some applications that run in the background (BBWeather is one) consume lots of power...

Yeah I've tried checking all of that to figure it out.

BBSmart Alarms Pro and PocketDay are the only ones I leave running.

I have Jivetalk installed but I haven't used it since it expired.

I also had the Google Mobile Updater installed, but I didn't leave it running in the background.

I delete it this morning thinking maybe it uses data even when it's closed.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow if there is any difference.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

How often is pocketday tracking stocks or weather? That may be impacting it as well.

Try disabling Pocketday (it's a great utility - I have it also) but I am concerned more about battery life!

I don't know how much juice BBSmart Alarms Pro uses...

I had a similar problem where I would get about 12 hours life or less.

I did all the switch applications and stuff. The thing that solved it in the end was a hard restart.

Turn the phone off. Take battery out for a minute. Put it back in and start fresh.

Easily something could be running in the background that just shouldn't be, it's like a computer, sometimes it gets stupid.

Can a program be using the data connection if it's not listed in the ALT-TAB list?

I've found using the internet even briefly KILLS your batterys, especially if you do anything that requires streaming data (ie, youtube, streaming radio).

For instance, I listened to SomaFM streaming radio for about 10-15 minutes the other day (without headphones), and the battery went down 10% in that amount of time. You're basically talking 1% per minute when streamin audio. All I know is once this thing becomes a little more capable with streaming, I'm going to need to get a spare battery or bring my charger to work and just keep it plugged in.

Even worse is watching Youtube. I had a bit of downtime at work and watched 3-4 Bill Maher clips on youtube (this time with headphones). Over a period of 20-30 minutes, my battery went from 85-95% to 25%. It basically kills your battery, so be carefuly with youtube.

When I use my call normally for texts, emails, and calls it seems to hold a charge no problem. Especially when I consider that my brand new FULLY-charged laptop only lasts about 2 hours when I'm using it for browsing the web.

Good luck

Yeah I could understand if I was doing some sort of streaming like that.

Really all I've been doing the past few days is Pocketday Weather, BB Messenger, a few text messages, and maybe 1 or 2 calls for 15 mins. or less.

It's always less than 20% battery when I leave work and I'm only there 8 hours.

BBSmart Alarms Pro does hit the battery life. There are a couple of posts about it in the BBSmart Alarms thread.
