John i would like to remove the att navigator and the yellowpages applications along with all of the shop application and a few others. My problem is i do not know what the file name is for them. Your assistance would really rock my 8110.

Been posted in this thread MANY times. Those are service books. You can delete them from Options >Advanced Options >Service Book but they will likely come back. Just hide them.

great writeup.

i have a twist to throw in. i have a feeling i know the answer but we'll see.

i upgraded to os 4.5 (37). this came with a new application "docs to go". after my os upgrade, i upgraded "docs to go".

i followed the steps as stated, started application loader, and now it wants to downgrade "docs to go". i can't uncheck the box because it will then remove it.

how do i tell application loader to just leave it the heck alone??

i have a feeling the answer is to allow it to downgrade then go back and upgrade again.....but hopefully someone else has a better answer.

No, just delete the DocumentsToGo.alx file (located in the same place as the Blackberry.alx. Then it will keep your current version of Docs To Go.

I took the plunge and went from .42 to .46 and used this method before installing. Once again, another thanks to JC!

net_rim_bb_media_320x240_b.cod (1.7MB)

On SureType devices (pearl
net_rim_bb_media_240x260_b.cod (3.5MB)

Note: On OS 4.5 the preloaded wallpaper file has been renamed net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240.cod and net_rim_bb_medialoader_240x260.cod
John,

I noticed that the wallpapers in 4.5 and up are actually named

net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod

Just thought I'd point that out to lessen some confusion.

I installed OS 4.5.0.52 today, and did not edit the Blackberry.alx file, since I knew in advance I didn't want any other themes (I'm not really a "themes" kinda guy; I just like to change the wallpapers once in a while). I just got rid of the unwanted .cod files and everything is working fine. For the last several beta versions, I've noticed that after optimizing I end up with about 27 MB, which is more than adequate.

That's correct. The editing of the Blackberry.alx is optional if you don't want other themes from what the vendor gave you.

The new beta left me with about 3 less MB of memory.

I deleted three of the themes and the vad files. I do not have BB maps, brick breaker, sample songs or sample videos. Anything else from 4.5 that I can dump?

You're like...a god. I just got my Pearl for Alltel and I'd been searching for either the T-Mobile Zen or Verizon Zen theme, now I've got them both AND free space. Thanks so much.
