I currently have Nextel but can switch to sprint if I like. My question is which blackberry service is better? I like nextel but dont use the direct connect feature to really benefit me. Does anyone on here know which blackberry will be better nextel or sprint? Or will they be the same (I know they are way different cause nextel has Iden and sprint doesnt.) My main reason for a blackberry will be emails(15-20 a day),stocks,weather,Vertichat (or IM),general web browsing (bank info/news/myspace/search engine). I will probably not use the email as much as I would use the internet. I heard Sprint was much faster cause of its network. I was told by sprint both unlimited data plans are the same price. Any information would be great.

P.S. (both sprint and nextel get about the same coverage cellphone wise in my area).

If the coverage is equal or better with Sprint in your area and you don't DC that much, I'd say switch. The Sprint berry has faster data speeds in a smaller profile device. To me the most important thing is coverage.

you will also lose the speakerphone and gps with the sprint bb... but it is a bit thinner and lighter. i dont' know if the sprint is faster for internet.. from what i hear you won't get evdo speed even though it does support it.

Speed is what I am looking for (well coverage but in my area they both seem to be the same). The only problem I have with sprint is it took me 3 different numbers to finally get a price on a blackberry plan.

I have a 7520 and dont use DC. I do use GPS for TeleNav. I just read another thread that said Sprint 7250 users can get EVDO on their devices with an update. The faster speeds, coverage issues I've been having with iDEN and smaller, lighter form factor is a compelling catalyst to switch to CDMA.

Nextel: Speakerphone, PTT, GPS, slow iDen network. Experienced with BBs.
Sprint: EVDO, no PTT or GPS. Still figuring out how to sell BBs.

You didn't mention text-messaging. If SMS is important to you, you should move to Sprint. Nextel continues to have serious text-messaging issues.

Network speed has nothing to do with Email. The data packets are so small it is negliable. Web browsing will be the only thing affected.

The in ability to tether the 7250 is a serious disappointment. I've had my 7520 for quite a while now and honestly it does everything I'd want, but I'd like a little smaller factor... I'd really like to get an 8700 when they come out for CDMA/EVDO but I think that's probably a little ways off. So I figured a 7250 with EVDO would do nice, but I'd want to replace my EVDO Sprint card with it and it does not support tethering, pretty bum deal...

I don't want to use the Sharkmodem as a lot of applications do not like being run through a proxy or cannot be proxied at all.

So the short of it, is I will stick with what I've got now cause I'd miss Telenav (Great when you travel alot) and my speakerphone.

Now whoever gets the CDMA 8700 I will be all over that.. Just got to find a plan for 4000-5000 minutes that will be affordable for the company.....

I was trying to see if Sprint had BBs but i dont see any on there phone list. I only see the treo and some other Pda

depends on the area. In my area you would have to get Treo's if you didnt like BB's. In effect they are together and are the same in performance using the same networks and same cell towers.

I use Direct Connect a lot. I like the GPS and love the speakerphone. Easy choice for me.

When our hurricanes hit us so badly their wasnt a telephone line or cell tower intact from one coast of FL to the other. BUT DIRECT CONNECT WORKED FINE!

The Sprint Blackberry (CDMA) is on the Business section at sprint.com or at most Sprint stores. They are available to non-business customers too.

i have Nextel, i use direct connect about over 75% of the time, only use the phone to call a couple of people. and my friend has a treo with sprint and he says its slower compared to my BB when browsing. but they seen about the same to me.

That is actually a good thing. I am on month 3 of just having a $15 powervision plan.

I am not trying to abuse the sstem either. I took coming here before I even relaized that BB plans existed!
