Angry phone won't charge, battery symbol with red cross

Please Login to Remove!

so today I bought a Blackberry Torch 9800. when I plug it in to charge, the normal battery symbol with the lightening bolt through it appears, but disappears 10 seconds later and an empty battery with a red cross through it appears. This is a BRAND NEW PHONE, never once been turned on, and it is refusing to charge. What the hell is wrong with it and is there any way to fix it without having to go back to the shop?

Try to charge it for a few hours and see if the battery takes the charge.

If it doesn't work, take it back.

it's already been plugged in for hours. I've seen people say that the sign means that the phone isn't even recognizing that there's a battery in it. I'm so pissed off that they'd sell a faulty phone/battery, especially one that costs so much money.

Damaged battery or a bad charging circuit. Take NJ's advice and return it.

Fault the seller, not the manufacturer. The 9800 is an "old" device so somehow, I doubt the "brand new" selling point.
