I use that (launched out of BBSAK). It's not when I load the OS, it is activation on my company's BES.

Under the very reasonable assumption that you understand this better than I do, I gave up on my indexing theory and tried one more time. I deleted all data in Desktop. Wiped my device using BBSAK. Learned that the combination of these two steps is a very dumb thing to do. Recovered from that error. Loaded .526 with no non-blackberry apps. Left it hooked up to the USB, which automatically activated it on my company's BES. Before adding any apps, the Phone CPU problem recurred. I then reloaded .480 and will wait for the next update.

I am on a BES system with a large company. When I first got this problem by upgrading to .534 I had the problem for 2-3 days straight .. so if it is doing some sort of index, then it is taking a long time - not sure I could stand waiting any longer than that with all the slow downs and locks ups to see if it finished indexing something.

My multiple fix attempts have been similar to yours. I have tried:
- updating it OTA
- updating it via Desktop
- wiping it clean and installing .534 only and restoring data
All of these produced the problem again right after the restore finished. I noticed a couple times that the problem didn't come back but then after resending my service books for my two hotmail accounts and one blackberry email account, then problem came back.
I tried deleting all my service books on the device and resending them from Blackberry Internet service website and still when they came back the problem would occur again - sometimes right away and sometimes anytime within 24 hours.
I don't think any of my apps are causing the problem. Before re-sending the service books in one of my attempts, I installed each of my apps one at a time and checked for the problem immediately after .. never occurred.

In my last attempt, I actually was running .534 with all my restored data and all my apps totally fine with no problem for 3 days. Then I re-sent my service books for my hotmail/bberry email accounts (because they weren't working properly) and the problem came back about 12 hours later.

So frustrating. I really don't know what else to do.

Unhappy Re: OS6.0.0.534 Problem

I went through a session with RIM support again to try to fix it. We reinstalled .534 using apploader. When it was complete, my BES IT policy kicked in and started the Synchronizing of Desktop which seems to re-initialize everything - syncing up calendar, address book, preferences, etc (the whole list of about 50 things). I also had my service books re-sent for hotmail and blackberry email. When it all completed, the the problem didn't come back and I thought it was going to be all good. Then 2 hours later it came back and 'Phone' is using 100% of CPU usage again.
I can verify that I did not install anything additional this time before the problem came back. So no apps, themes or downloads were installed.

So now where do I go for help? RIM support does not have any other knowledge of how to handle this problem.

I too have been having the same issue with a severe battery drain ever since upgrading from OS 5 to OS 6. The most frustrating part for me is that several of my co-wokers who are running the exact same BB model and OS (and are connected to our comapny BES) are having no issues. After reading through this and other threads on this topic, I've tried the following:

1. Wipe using BBSAK. Installed OS6.0.0.534 (Bell Mobility). Restored backup file using BDM. Reactiavted BES. Problem remains (Phone App takes over the CPU).

2. Wipe using BBSAK. Installed OS6.0.0.546 (Taiwan Mobile). Restored backup file using BDM. Reactiavted BES. Problem remains (Phone App takes over the CPU).

3. Factory Reset using BBSAK. Restored backup file using BDM. Problem remains (Phone App takes over the CPU).

4. Factory Reset using BBSAK. So far (about 1 hour), no issues with the Phone App.

After the recent test, I did not restore contacts/settings/etc. from BDM nor have I Activated BES. It appears that something in the restore file (perhaps a setting) is causing this Phone App to take over the CPU. I'll be activating BES in the morning.

Update: After activating BES, the phone/CPU problem has returned. Obviously something being pushed with the BES settings is causing this issue.

The one thing that we all seem to have in common is that we are all on a company BES that automatically initiates the Enterprise Activation (where each core component gets initialized/sync'd) immediately after the bberry boots for the first time after O/S installation.
I believe it is part of our BES IT policy for this auto activation to occur. It even begins and completes when the 'Mobile Network' is set to 'OFF' under 'Manage Connections'.

In any case, after about 20 hours and a couple weeks of trying to fix this, I gave up and went back to .448. The 'Phone' CPU usage problem doesn't exist for us on .448 for some reason.

I guess I'll just wait for the .6xx update and hope they have it worked out.
Going back from 570 to 480 worked for me too. Recently I activated my phone on our company's BES. That is when my problems started under 570

Has anyone tried the 6.0.0.600 update released today? Do we still have the problem?

I guess the problem is solved!

Try going into Options / Device / Storage and turn compression(enabled) feature off
