Is there a chance to get the Vodafone Today Theme onto the Blackberry Curve from T-Mobile Germany?

I am using the Vodafone Today theme on my Curve. I used the new SW drop and changed the Blackberry.alx file as has been documented before.

You cannot just download the theme itself unfortunately.

You can not simply "download" it.

Follow the instruction for loading the modified .alx file and unlocking all the vendor themes.

the OS distributions come with most/all of the vendor themes. they just load the ones specific to your carrier unless you modify the .alx files.

here is the first part of the instructions linked to above How to Add Vendor Locked Themes - BlackBerryFAQ

1 Install all software -- desktop manager AND a copy of the OS files
for the OS files, YOU must find and download the right version.
NOTE: I don't see a copy of the Vodafone 4.2.2 sw downloadable yet,
so you may have to wait, or use a different one than you have on your system
I am on Cingular, so I was able to use the sw shown at the sticky link at the top of this forum area

2 Navigate the the following location in windows explorer:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files
In this folder should be a folder corresponding to the version of software you've installed. For instance installing Bharti's 4.2.1.91 software for 8700, creates the folder:

\8700-v4.2.1.91_P2.3.0.76
3 In this folder, open the "BlackBerry.alx" file in your text editor of choice.

follow the rest of the instructions

Sam

Correct, you need to reflash the sw onto the BB. You need at least a 4.2.2 level to match what comes with the phone already.. and then you need to tweak the config of the sw to load, by removing the theme restrictions that are built in.. (as these are carrier specific themes, Vodafone should appear by default on AT&T branded device, even tho they are all in the sw package, only branded versions are installed)..

I just looked and 4.2.2. is on the BB download site for TMobile Germany

Default Downloading new OS

I am using an AT&T 8300 on t-mo. Everything works fine - I have t-zones plus BB browser --got rid of PTT using javaloader. I want other themes-- if I download AT&T OS will it change the settings I already tinkered with on the BB -- will it cause the service books to change? In other words, the themes are not worth it if it will cause other issues.

But you can do this -
Install the Vodaphone OS on your PC. Copy all the files for the theme - could be 10 or so - to your the java directory of your current OS. Modify your current .alx and load the theme using javaloader. See the thread on VZ theme on the 8300. This way you don't upset all you have done so far.

But how can I access my alx file if I never did an OS install from my PC. Is there a way to transfer the alx file from the BB to the pc to modify it?

Are you talking about the Desktop SW or the Device SW? Because I cannot find any Device SW for the Blackberry Curve 8830 on the T-Mobile Germany Site...

afaik, the alx files don't get transferred to your blackberry. they just tell the desktop software what files to transfer.
