Default 7100 Series - "ABC"or"123" Indication showing on top RH Corner

Please Login to Remove!

There were a few posts in the "Pocket Day" thread here about the indication for "ABC" or "123" on the 7100 series BB's.
I wanted to bring this into a new thread as it isnt really tied to just PocketDay but seems to be a stand alone issue.

I have the same problem and I cant seem to get rid of it when I try. Occationally it will go away but there isnt a standard way of getting rid of these indications. As I understand it, these indications are supposed to show if you are in an 'editable' field and indicate weather you are in 'sure-type' mode or dual tap.
I have a 7100g, using a BES. Registering (as was previously mentioned) does not help the issue.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Dave

My workaround is to go into an editable field and turn it off.

It's always "ABC" on my 7100 (never had "123"), so I'll just pop into messages, click REPLY, press/hold the * key until "ABC" goes away, and then cancel my reply.

I have no idea what causes it to happen. It doesn't happen often for me, but it always seems to turn itself on when I'm nowhere near an 'editable' field. ??

Default Multitap and Cap Locks

The ABC means multitap is on which I think goes on in certain fields like password. The * key turns it on and off.

123 is number lock

• To turn on NUM lock, press Shift + Alt
• To turn off NUM lock, press Alt

Not sure if this helps in your situation.

Yeah, I never use multitype, which is why I'm confused as to why I see "ABC" on the screen sometimes. *I* never turned it on.

The fact that it turns on automagically when you're in a password field is the best explanation I've heard of so far. I do "do" passwords. :D
