Default BES Software Configuration Best Practices

Please Login to Remove!

Guys I have a couple questions about software configurations. I have a few configs on my server pushing anything from Sametime to the DST patch from last year to bluetooth keyboard software. My question is, after you assign the config to a user and they receive the software and it works, should you remove the configuration from the users account? And if you remove it does it remove the software (I dont bel it does but figured I would ask at the same time)?

Thanks!

Once the software is on the handheld then it is going to stay there until they remove it, you remove it via software config, or they get a new device.

You can remove them if you wish.

I like to have a base config and then create new ones as needed. I have about 10 different ones myself.

I usually remove the software config from the user account after it has been installed/pushed successfully. I have never really checked the logs to see if you leave that config if it is keeps trying to push it out or not. I do know that will not remove the application from the device if you set the user software configuration assignment to 'none'. Hope that helps.

Default I create a set for each application

I create a SW Conf named 'Add' - it's required

I create a SW Conf named 'Opt' - it's optional

I create a SW Conf named 'Rem' - it's disallowed

To deploy, set the client to Add, after 24 hours, set the client to Opt
This way the client can remove on demand without calling me.

Once the Opt has been applied for 24 hours, I can remove the client from the SW List

When I want to remove it I set the client to Rem

This works fine over the last couple years.
