Default Unsolicited messages for BB Messenger--Spam?

Please Login to Remove!

Having been a BB user for several years, I just got my first BB Messenger solicitation. It came from some unknown person, said Received Using : Peer to Peer, To: Yara Moreno (not me), was in Spanish, and the From field gave a BB PIN number. The solicitation was for me to put this person's name on my BB Messenger list, best I could read the Spanish. I don't have BB Messenger installed on my BB Bold.

I understand broadcast email spam all too well, but how did this spammer get my BB PIN number or BB email address? I don't even know what type of message this was. The message heading was in red typeface. Does it count against my message package with AT&T? How do I block this kind of spam?

I'm sure the answer to this is obvious to the BB pros out there....

Thanks.

The person may have a wrong PIN Number. Are you the original owner of the device????
PIN messaging is data which does not impact your wallet more if you have an unlimited plan.

Thanks.

IOW, PIN messaging is data, not an SMS message? I have an unlimited data plan, in which case a PIN message is just an annoyance, not a cost, I assume.

Yes, I am the original owner. Maybe it was the wrong PIN number, but the solicitation seemed impersonal, as best I could tell. The only place I have listed my PIN is with a well known 3rd party BB software seller and I assume they don't sell their lists of PIN numbers.

Wirelessly posted (8820)

I've gotten one or two mystery BB messenger requests. Sometimes someone from BBF will contact me, but in these cases I add the contact but there's never a followup. I delete the contact later. Only thingi can figure is it's a wrong number, so to speak--someone made a typo.

PIN spam is possible but I don't really see how it would even be effective. I suspect it's a case of wrong PIN. Just reply and let the person know.

OK--thanks very much. It makes a lot more sense now. I'll do that.
