Hi,
I am trying to investigate an issue where attachment processing time (ie, the time it takes for the BES Server to convert and send attachments) is taking a long time.
Some attachments like txt files and PDF's download to our handhelds and display quickly, others like word documents etc, take a longer time (up to 1 minute) to be downloaded to the phone.
It seems quicker on wifif verses 3G obviously, but I suspect the server's performance could be better.
We are running BES 5.0.3 MR3 (Bundle 93)
Running on Server 2003 SP2 with 3.4GB of Ram and 4 CPU running at 1.8GHZ each (On VMware)
Running with a remote SQL instance
80 Handsets (various versions and models)
The server seems a bit sluggish at times, especially with the new Admin Interface. Could these issues be related?
doing some reading on RIM's support site indicates the location and speed of the attachment server contributes to the issue. There are many suggestions on their site that may help including location of the A server.
We have around 130 users at a client and there are absolutely no problems with attachment server performance. Before you separate the attachment service, I would rather separate the BAS, which is really resource hungry.
You should really test the attachment service on the Blackberry Server Applet to see if it is slow locally as well.
Thanks for feedback. I noticed the BAS-AS.exe service uses quite a bit of CPU time and Memory. The server also has a high paging file usage.
The next step I think will be to move Admin Services off server. Just need to see how to do that and what's best.
My Disk queue lenght is around .5 but sometimes goes as high as 1 during normal operation.
