Default Overseas clients get "limited functionality"

Please Login to Remove!

We are based in Sydney / Australia and have a number of global clients. One of the users in London is having troubles during his Enterprise Activation. His provider (O2) tells him that in order to have full BES functionality, we need to have a BES server in the UK. If not, he will have "limited BES functionality".

Now this sounds like a lot of nonsense to me, especially as I have travelled extensively with my BB to Europe and never experienced "limited BES functionality".

Mind you, this is relayed to me via my client, so there may be a bit of chinese whispers going on as well.

Before I call the provider in London to get clarification, could I please ask here for some feedback regarding this very issue? Is there such a thing as "limited BES" just because you are in a different country?

Any hints / weapons for me before I call, please?

The only time I have been made aware of "limited" BES functionality was with Cingular as the carrier, they do not allow for "manual scanning" of networks and there are times when the users only get voice service (no data) but that has been experienced in Brazil, Argentina lately. Never issues with our travlers when they go from the US to UK.

Sounds like a load of bull to me.

Some carriers have Blackberry Prosumer or Enterprise Price Plans

If you have Prosumer/Consumer Account you can do PIN + BIS/BWC messaging
If you have Enterprise Account you can do PIN+BIS+BES messaging (more $$)

I am afraid that may be the case with your overseas client.

Carriers like T-Mobile USA have that setup and can get very confusing to BES Administarators ,who think if you can do PIN2 PIN you should have no probs on being on BES.

Having BES in London for user to have full BES functionality is "all chinese whispering and no fact"

Hence a user when active on BES by activating over wire, will get error "Service Blocked" when sending emails,PIN to PIN and BIS should work fine.

I think this may be your problem...
