Hi all, i have a 9700 for about 18 months that has been fantastic for me but i am due an upgrade and wanted to know what would be the natural successor to this? The 9900 looks like a 9000 replacement, I would appreciate any advice on this

Check the Rumors section. There are several new devices rumored to be on the horizon.

Thread title edited for clarity.

Thanks ! What do you think of the torch as a 9700 replacement?

Never used a 9700. I like the 9800 however.

Depends on your wants and needs. Do you like a touch screen or not. Also depends on the carrier, if they support it or not.

If it were me I would wait for the soon to be released Bold Touch (9900). It would give you the best of both worlds. If you prefer the Torch, there's a new Torch 2 in the upcoming releases as well.

The 9900 Bold Touch will be the successor to the 9700. Same basic form factor of the traditional bar-style BlackBerry, but with a touch-sensitive screen like the old Palm Treo. The Bold Touch will be slightly larger than the current Bold, supposedly the same size as the older Bold 9000. The screen will be fractionally larger than the 9700 screen, and the processor and memory should be bumped up as well.

I have a 9700 atm and waiting to update to the new Torch 2.
I believe the new torch 2 will suits me better cause of the larger screen compared to the 9900. Anyway, I'm open minded about them!

I loved the 9000 and was slightly unsure about changing but absolutely the 9700 has been mega for me and i can say it long term it has been faultless but i do update os etc from here, like a lot of people i always get concerned when changing as there may be something better round the corner, if the 9900 is it then i'm sure that would be fine, i seem to remember my 9000 flipped easily in my hand when i answered calls though and that stopped with the smaller 9700.

If you liked both the 9000 and 9700, then the 9900 sounds like it would be a good one for you to check out when it becomes available. Until then, if it were me, I'd wait. Updating to the latest OS might be a good idea (OS6 if you're not already using it), since it would give you a chance to get acquainted with the newer interface which you'll see on the upcoming releases.

I can't wait for the 9900. I miss the larger keyboard when I went to the 9700 from the 9000.

That's exactly what I did with my 9650. I know the new devices are coming, and I know they're all going to run OS 6 (and higher). That's the future of BlackBerry, at least until QNX comes into play. So even though I much prefer OS 5, I'm running 6 now and getting accustomed to it's quirks and changes.

The 9900 is coming out on my carrier three.co.uk in August i read somewhere so that could be the successor! Time will tell i have the os6 already in my 9700 and like it but it seems to have style at a cost of speed and battery life.
