Default Wireless Activation with AD PW?..a myth?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm losing my mind!
397 blackberry's on our server and i've told ALL of the them (over 200 bought within the last year) to use their exchange email address and active directory password to do the wireless activation.
So today decided to called RIM because recently we have had a lot of new BB's come in and i've had to set their activation password manually (feel really stupid sayin that now) and i wanted to find out why. So i call RIM and the guy says that its never even been possible to wireless activate with an AD password...?!? Im stumped... i looked up the documentation and he was right.

Has anyone else been mislead as badly as I? I still have one of the IT guys here swearing he has done it and refuses to believe me.
What surprises me the most is how few complaints we have gotten from new users.

It was never the AD password.Always what the Admin Sets or what is auto generated by the BES.

Unless by some weired co-incidence the auto generated password matches the AD password for the user

RIM is correct. the users probably connected their handhelds to Desktop manager.

Enterprise Activation has never been tied back to an Active Directory password. I don't think you were misled. Confused, perhaps, but not misled.

Did you recently upgrade from 3.x to 4.x? When I did that, quite a few of the devices on our BES automagically did the wireless activation (mine included) without any password being entered. Some did NOT start automatically and I had to generate a password manually.

But not the AD password.....
