Smile Help needed to upgrade OS on 9530

Please Login to Remove!

I recently bought a storm Telus Unlocked version. I am currently using it on Vodafone IN.
The signal strength that I am getting is very weak(around 2 -3 bars). Before Storm I was using HTC GENE and I never got this problem.

Please can anyone tell me is it a network problem or maybe coz of TELUS OS.?

My About Screen Says:
Blackberry 9530 Smartphone(3G,CDMA)
v5.0.0.419(Platform 4.2.0.179)

Can I install the OS provided by some other service provider such as BELL Mobility or any other.
What all things should I take care of before updating my OS?

Please help me, I am a Newbie . Thanks in advance.!

You can install any OS you wish, as long as it is for your specific device, the 9530. See the sticky at the top of the 9500 section for the OS and instructions. Make sure that you have a good back up first.

As for the signal issue, I doubt and OS update will fix it. Can you do every thing you need to do with the phone as it is now - email, surf, text, make and receive calls, etc?

Yes sir, I am able to make and recieve calls, send/receive sms, use 3G/Edge, use the browser .
But most of the times my signal strength goes low. This never used to happen with my previous device.

Is it because I m using a GSM connection and on the backside of my phone its written Qualcomm 3G CDMA?

I read the article on how to upgrade OS. Its written that we have to delete the file vendor.xml file. On my PC vendor.xml file says:
Quote:
<vendorsrc version="0.0.0.0">

</vendorsrc>
What does it mean?

The 9530 uses both CDMA and, if unlocked, on GSM. Poor signal strength is a local issue and has nothing to do with CDMA.

The Vendor.xml blocks you from installing operating systems that aren't specifically branded for your (Telus) BB. Deleting it lets you install any 9530 OS, regardless of vendor branding. In other words, delete it and don't bother trying to understand what's inside the file.

So all i need to do is just
1.download the OS file for Bell mobility.
2.Then delete the vendor.xml file.
3.Then run the loader.exe

After installing the new OS will i require me to unlock my phone again or I can just use it straight away on any network?

Follow the instructions to this thread TO THE LETTER: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

Follow every step carefully.

Once a BlackBerry is unlocked, it stays unlocked. It's not an iPhone.

Note that if you are trying to remove the branding/splash screen that comes up, you will not be able to.
