Anyone know if Garmin will release a version of Garmin Mobile for the Blackberry 9700? Any pros/cons with Garmin verses Telenav?

Garmin Mobile does work with the 9700. If you look on their website, it shows a picture of the Tour 9630; however, the Tour is not listed in the compatible devices. They just haven't updated their list. It will still work.

I tried to download the 7 day trial and I got a message that "... the 7 day trial is not supported on this Blackberry device." And I asked Garmin Customer Service about it. They told me that there is no version for the 9700, however, they won't guarantee it but they believe the version for the 9000 will work. Does anyone have any experience with the Garmin Mobile for Blackberry 9000 on the 9700? I am leary of paying the $99 without trying it first. I guess my original question should have been, does anyone know if Garmin will release a trial version for the 9700. Thanks!

Where's the trial version at? I don't see a link.

Go to Garmin | Garmin Mobile - Garmin GPS Navigation on Your Mobile Phone On the right side of the screen is a trial button but it won't work on the 9700.

It works fine. The 9700 and 9000 have different screen resolutions, with the 9000 at 480x320 (3:2 aspect ratio) and the 9700 at 480x360 (4:3). The various Garmin Mobile builds must be for different resolutions: the .cod for the 9000 is gmbbhvga.cod, with "hvga" likely being for "Half VGA", i.e. 480x320.

Anyway, to answer that question again, yes it works and it appears that the application just stretches slightly to fill the extra 40 pixels vertically. It's barely noticeable at first and then you quickly get used to it. Otherwise, it works fine.

Customer support should be able to send you a direct link to download it if the trial link doesn't work for you.

If it shows the Tour 9630 on their website, that would lead me to believe that they have a version with 480x360 resolution, since the Tour and Bold2 have the same screen.

Good point.

Is it possible there's a hardware difference between the Bold 9700 and Tour 9630 that would make the version of Garmin Mobile for the Tour not work on the new Bold? Either the radio or the GSM chip? Not sure myself, just asking.

I've used the 9000 version AND the 8900 version ON the 9700. Actually, the 8900 version works better because the 9700 uses the same screen as the 8900 (the 9000 had a lower res screen than the 8900 or 9700) and the icons and text better match (size wise) but they work pretty much the same (either version...no errors on either version).

Garmin has good java code for the app...so it's fine under either.

OH, for anyone trying it and it refusing. ALOT of apps refuse to download 'cause the 9700 is so new. 8900 apps work the best (cause the screen is the same size).

If you go to the blackberry lounge...just download either the 8900 version or the 9000 version and the both work fine. It's also only $79 there...it's part of BB website.

Tech support will allow you to switch if one gives you trouble but they both work without errors.

Still no trials and I guess that is a complete deal buster for me. Pretty much everyone ele gives you 30 days and even Garmin gives you 7 normally. I have used Mapquest for 2 years and it always worked fine. I am trying Telenav on this phone and will end up with one of them I am sure.

It has a 30 day money back guarantee, so technically, yes it does have a free 30 day trial.

i have been using Garmin 5.0.2 on my 9700 from day 1. works like a charm.

I did have issues getting a GPS fix over 3G - it worked over EDGE. But seems to be sporadic.
