Guys, please take it easy,

12packny, if you opt to show this sort of attitude on the boards, you won't be welcome here, had you worded your initial post differently, people would not be questioning your work habits.

ok

1. telenav appears to be a newly loaded application with 4.2 bberry software. I notice that every blackberry I set up now has it *before* the OTA policy is pushed out.

2. just because you have the telenav does not mean your blackberry's GPS is enabled. This is a pay service, not unlike call waiting, i'm not sure of the cost, but i'd assume it's around 10$ a month. To check if it is enabled, go to:
options, location based services, push on the wheel and refresh gps. It should scan for satellites, and within about 2 minutes or less you should either get your coordinates (yes it's enabled, still doesnt mean you're being tracked though) or you will get a message "GPS fix unavailble" or something like that. This could mean that the service is enabled, but not active at this time, you don't have a signal etc, but most likely that it is not enabled.

3. if you have a problem with it, ask your IT department and find out if it is enabled, if it is request a different phone that is not, or do whatever you've got to do to feel comfortable.

4. the "by permission" function only asks you if applications on the blackberry are trying to access the GPS feature. This will not stop your boss, or your boss's boss from tracking where you are, if it is indeed enabled.

7520VA is close, in point 2, Manually refreshing the GPS will work regardless of GPS permissions or whether or not there is a GPS app on the BB7520.

TeleNav is GPS driving directions and the Icon that you see on your BB is probably just their advertising push that came in from Nextel/Sprint a few weeks back. TeleNav also has a tracking software called TeleNavtrack (TNT). There are 2 flavors of TNT, Java and Lite. Java TNT is an application that is downloaded to the BB and you would see an Icon for it. Since it is Java based you would you have to launch the software for the tracking to start. If your phone administrator added public IP to your BB they can remotely start this software. TNT Lite has no software install on the phone at all. This means you could be tracked without your knowledge and in most states the owner of the phone does not have to disclose this information to you the employee.

Your best bet is to set the GPS to Restricted to keep any readings from being taken. If your employer is tracking the phone you will find out in a hurry as they will be in contact with you to ease up the restrictions on the GPS.
