Just upgraded my MacBookPro today with Leopard and my 8830 tethers on BT.

System preference settings: Bluetooth
Tel Number = #777
Acct Name = (your number)@vzw3.com
Password = Verizon login password

Advanced Bluetooth settings: Modem
Vendor = other
Model = Verizon 1xEVDO Modem Script

This should get you online after pairing your 8830 with a Mac.

Default Where to Get Verizon 1xEVDO Modem Script Driver?

I just installed Lepoard, and I don't see that driver as one the options listed under other? Do I need to dowload it and if so where can I get it?

I have been able to pair and tether by MacBook and 8830 just fine until I upgraded to Leopard. Now I cannot get the two to pair...

Anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

What do you do to pair? Are you on BIS or BES?

FOR PEOPLE LOOKING FOR BT THETHERING ON THE MAC WITH 10.5 (LEOPARD).

1) Pair the BB with the Mac via BT. Verify BT on Mac and BB is on (of course).

2) On Mac, go to System Preferences > Network.

3) In list of connections on left, click on the + at the bottom of list. In the "Interfaces" drop down select "Bluetooth" NOT "Blackberry", if that option exists. For service name, I used "BlackBerry EVDO".

4) Now, for your username use "[yourphonenumber]@vzw3g.com" example: "5554445555@vzw3g.com". For your password type "vzw" and Telephone Number will be "#777"

5) Now hit the Advanced button and in the Modem tab find the Vendor dropdown. Select "au by KDDI". Under Model dropdown select "cdmaOne Bluetooth"

THATS IT! Hit connect and your all set to go!

Default Tethering BB8830 with Mac OS X Leopard for Sprint

I just successfully tethered my 8830 using Leopard for Sprint thanks to the many others who figured out all the pieces. Here are the steps (assuming you have paired your phone):

1. Open System Preferences and Choose Network
2. On the left side under the list of services, click the + sign.
3. Choose Bluetooth from the Interface pulldown menu. Name it whatever you like.
4. Click on your newly created service. In the fields to the right, use #777 for the telephone number and leave the others blank.
5. Click on the Advanced button on that same screen.
6. Choose Sprint from the Vendor dropdown list. It will give you the default value of PCS Vision in the Model field. I just left that as is. All the other defaults are fine. Click OK.
7. Make sure the Show Modem... checkbox is checked. Click Apply.
8. Go to the Modem icon in the menu bar. Choose Connect.

If you haven't paired your handset yet,
9. Click on Set Up Bluetooth Device...
10. Click the + under the left column.
11. Follow the instructions as you are guided. Be sure to check the box next to "Access the internet with your phone's data connection." If asked for username and password, leave blank. Leave phone number field blank also. The Network connection will handle that.
12. Go to the Modem icon in the menu bar. Choose Connect.

Hopefully that works for you. Some people have had to restart after doing this for whatever reason.

Default Modem keeps disconnecting

I've followed all the steps in the forum. Great stuff by the way. However, after I click connect and my 8830 shows Modem Mode Enabled, my mac changes from "Connecting" to "Disconnecting" and ultimately there's a message that says "Authentication Failed." Any ideas? Thanks.

Not sure if this will help you or not. but I was having the same problems. I installed the vzw software for blackberry on my Windows PC and connect via USB. Once connected i had to enter my phone number to set up an "account". After that i was able to connect with the MAC with no issues. If you don't have a windows pc to connect i would suggest calling VZW data services (800-922-0204) and have them reprovision your account or see if they can set up the account on their end. I am not sure what exactly that entails as the vzw software did it for me.

Hope that helps

Cheers.
