Exclamation blackberry from ebay

Please Login to Remove!

i just bought this blackberry bold 9700 off ebay with no contract required. I do not want the internet for my device. My question is will the blackberry work by just switching the sim card. Normally I know it does but with the data plan requirement for att im not sure. thanks

Maybe, maybe not. Is it an ATT BB? Was it on BES previously?

Did you read the FAQ about buying a BB from eBay?

BES is a corporate/company BlackBerry server. If it was previously connected to a BES, there will be an IT Policy on the device that may prevent you from doing certain things.

As long as the device doesn't have an IT Policy on it blocking either of those things (and they can both be blocked) then the SIM *should* work in it.

To my knowledge, all of your GSM carriers require data plans on smartphones. If you don't add it, they'll add it for you. You might try prepaid.

You can get a used (unlocked) device and just pop in your SIM card. The GSM carriers will treat it like any basic phone. If, on the other hand, you buy it from the carrier and get the subsidy price they will require a data plan be activated at time of purchase.

Yes, however ATT periodically checks phones over the air to see what their customers are using. And if you are using a blackberry without a blackberry plan, they will add it to your bill automatically.

This begs the question why would you buy a Blackberry Bold 9700 (Cream of the Crop BB) and not use it for email and data?

To use a BB Bold 9700 for just SMS and Phone is insulting IMO. You should have bought a pay as you go phone or some other plain jane phone if that was all you needed it for.

Save yourself a headache.

Once a month, AT&T queries all of their devices to ensure the plans match the devices. If you REALLY want just talk and text, get on GoPhone. $60 gives you that and unlimited. Because there IS no BlackBerry data plan, they can't put you on one.

They're the latest bling. Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and a host of others all carry them. It's a sign of the impending apocalypse.
