Default Switching Devices Frustration - Help!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Tring to stay calm, but I am finding switching from one Pearl handset to another very frustrating. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

I have an 8100 which I have just replaced with an 8120.
I had thought it would be straightforward to transfer everything from the old one to the new one so that the replacement handset basically looked the same as the old one, but...
  • I had as my theme for the 8100 'Vodafone Today' - I don't seem to have that option now.
  • I can't get the media (only pictures) from the old phone on to the new one. I have tried doing so via the device manager but it seems to save from the old media card, but when I then reconnect to the new phone, I get a 'fatal error' and can't upload.
  • My calendar has uploaded moreorless okay, but for entries which I had entered as 'All Day Event', it has now accepted the entry as a 24 hour appointment so that it brackets those hours rather than just showing the appointment as a heading for the day as previously.

Is there a way of doing what I thought would be possible - ie replicating all that was input on my old 8100 onto my new 8120?

Have you tried to use the "switch device wizard" within Desktop Manager? It's designed for this purpose.

Yes, that was how I managed to transfer most of what was on the old handset, but it hasn't replicated the old one as I expected it to - the main difficulties that I have are with the theme; the media card contents (photos); and the way that the calendar has treated my "All Day Events" in a completely different way.

The functionality of the new handset seems to be fine, it is just the appearance, the media not being transferred and the calendar which are giving me grief!

Anyone please?

Maybe it just isn't possible to copy everything over just as it was and I was unrealistic expecting this???

Advice or confirmation that this is the case would be appreciated.

With regards to the theme, there are different themes created for different version. It is possible for the new blackberry the Vodafone theme you want is not available.

Subsequently, you have try to unlock all the themes (see the BB FAQ) too see if that would help.

With regards to the non-transfer of the pictures/media, there are a couple of thoughts.:

A) If you have a memory card, put it all on the memory card and simply take the memory card out of the old berry and put it in the new one.

B) Try putting the media on your harddrive of your computer and then transfer it over to the new device manually. You may be able to accomplish this with the Roxio Media Manager (if installed, if it is not installed you may want download the newest version of Dektop Manager with the Media Manager component).
