hey moemoney

i found a solution for that one. if your phone is storm 2 (9520) and it's a DRM version. you have to download a DRM version so taht you can update your phone.

Default Vendor.xml Deleted but Still can not load OS on BlackBerry

I've run into this a bunch of times over the years. You delete the Vendor.xml file and still you can not load the OS.

I've found that if you have the BlackBerry plugged in before you've actually deleted Vendor.xml, it can create this scenario. Note all my testing is without Desktop Manager Installed.

I've finally figured out a way to deal with this though.

The trick is in the order of operation.

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader, and delete vendor.xml
2. Run Loader.exe & connect phone. At this point you are either Good to go and can load the firmware, or, it just won't show the firmware as available. If it does not show, continue:
3. Disconnect the device, and Remove the Battery.
4. Plug in the USB Cable
5. Insert the Battery
6. Start Loader.exe

This allows loader.exe to connect to the device before it is fully booted up and now Loader.exe will show the software for loading.

In some rare cases this will also not resolve it. In this case, get JavaLoader.exe and perform "javaloader.exe -u resettofactory" which clears out any IT policies on the device, then start at Step 1 and try again.

Thanks,

Hi, I see it before in some models, but I solved this trouble with this step, maybe you can solve this:

1. Remove Battery from phone
2. Delete vendors.xml
3. Run c:\Program Files/Common files/Research in Motion/AppLoader/loaders.exe
4. Click next
5. Put battery in phone and connect data cable, after click next quickly when you see "PIN: UNKNOW".

After that you can see menu to select wich app you need to install with os on phone.

excellent help - worked on an 8520 that for some reason would not update - only thing i would add is dont bother with putting battery in - you dont have enough time to do that and plug usb cable in to click next on PIN: UNKNOW

once the update has started i then put the battery in

hi i am really strugling to get my Curve 8520 updated to OS 5 :(

i tried to do what the OP explained but i have loads of problems :(

1. i don't seem to have the vendor.XML file
2. i don't find the apploader on my C: drive
3. even tho my carrier provides the OS 5 and above fo the Curve 8520 after the install it keeps telling me there are no updates for my bb.
4. yes i have a data plan

i have windows 7

i am a complete nibblet when it comes to BB and its products and frankly at this moment i am starting to regret i even bought one :( it's a fantastic phone even the best i ever had but updating to a better OS should not be such a pain in the *** :s

any tips are welcome and i am sorry for my poor englisch

I'm becoming a little n00b.
Can anyone post pictures of it?
I tried to find this item, but i didn't.
