there are quite a few versions available. here's the one that was posted to digg.com about 3 weeks ago. really all this is is a 'tone' sample (usually available with most audio editors) sampled down to a 16khz-20khz frequency. every co-worker i had was able to hear it once we put it on speakers (or through the BlackBerry), although i was somewhat worried when i couldn't hear it through my headset (standard Telecom headset; guess it didn't support low frequencies).

if your link is different, post it and i'll convert it to an active URL for you.

I was sent a link about this today, but I just put it on vibrate on occasions when etiquette is uber-essential.

Default uh oh....

i hope i can't hear this because the freq response of these integrated dell speakers is 2-3khz. either that or i really am getting old. heck i use to be able to hear if the tv was on just from the whine of the tube but that's starting to fade as well. it may be that i'm losing my spidy sense or evolving away from the bat genome.

People think I am nuts when I try to explain that. I have always been able to hear them from the next room.

I pulled down the tone from the Digg link the other day and it was about 50/50 for those around me. It drove my 9 year old nuts though when I got home. I can hear it well, but apparently the younger you are the more sensitive you are to it. Maybe we can incorporate it into our parenting tool belt

It was originally developed by a Welsh security company as an ultrasonic teenager repellent.
