I figured I never did a battery-pull since the update although, it did restart it a couple times as I was removing software, but I figured it would be okay.

This morning, a few minutes ago, I picked it up and punched in my password and it is frozen.... Now, since I typed this much, I just checked and it is working. I suspect it is busy doing something but this is a bit ridicules in my opinion. I was always able to use it instantly before the update. And with the battery-life thing, it seems like it is using the battery just about twice as fast as it used to. I used to have to charge it every third day because I left the location service off. I still have everything set the way I had it set before but it is still very battery hungry.

So, my next adventure is seeing what it will take to downgrade back to what I had before if that is even possible.
I too am having issues with freezing with .600. Also had it with .570 and .575. I don't recall having the freezing issues with prior versions, or for that matter, with any other Blackberry. I am seriously thinking of downgrading.
As indicated above it is relatively easy to downgrade with the current version of Desktop Manager.

Bell Canada also has adopted .600

https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...6C155DB8.node1

With major operators around the world adopting this, it must be one of the better ones.

I just checked and I had freezing with versions after .448 also. I may be an issue with other none-compliant software on my phone or all the stuff left on the phone after numerious OS upgrades and not .600.
Will do a complete delete of the OS and reinstall of .600

I don't have any older OS on my computer because the only thing I downloaded was 600. I would prefer to have the OS the phone came with as this thing is still just being stubborn as hell. It freezes a lot and "Mark Prior Open hardly ever works. Basically, it made a phone I loved into one I dread.

So, I guess I need to figure out which was the original OS the phone had when I bought it. I should still have some "backups" saved from that era but I don't know if the actual OS number would be in there. Then I guess I have to find where I can download that from. Then, hopefully, the downgrade will work successfully and actually return it to the way it was.

I know there may be some cute features of the newer OS but there is "NOTHING" about it that I want or need. I just want my phone to work as good as it used to.

I really appreciate any help or info on "How to Downgrade" the OS. I've never tried that and have no idea what I'm in for.

Okay: I am hooked up right now and I went where you said, (Medic48), and I do see (3) options for downgrade, one of which is (V6.0.0.246) which sounds familiar. Not sure if that was the original but how can it be much worse that this one. So, I'm going to try it and see what happens. I'll let you know.

Okay, one final post by me in this thread. I have downgraded to 246 and so far, so good. I am not sure how much the coomputer has to do with the upgrade/downgrade time but it says it can take up to an hour but it only takes about fifteen minutes so it's really not that painful. I'm using an i7 with 4GB of RAM so maybe that helps but I would think the phone has something to do with it. I noticed that the Blackberry Messenger that I use a lot has still retained some upgrades to it, perhaps just an over-all upgrade to the service itself, independent of the OS on the phone. As far as battery life, I use to be able to charge it once every three days. With the 600 OS, that was reduced to a day and a half at best and that was with everything I could turn off and delete too. I'll have to see how that goes. But the phone is once again very responsive and everything seems to work just the way it did when I bought it.

So, my over-all opinion on the upgrade, if there is some feature that you just got to have or some problem you need to fix, then maybe an OS upgrade is in order. But, in my opinion, if your phone works great and it does everything you need, DON"T FIX WHAT AIN'T BROKEN!

I have been running this software version since its release/post on this forum - and I have had no issues at all... no reboots, or pausing at all.

The only issue that I seem to be having is my GPS is not keeping connecting to the satellites.

I have to go in and manually and refresh in order to get my position.

I did a complete wape and reinstalled .600. I don't seem to be having the freesing issues now.
However, I reinstalled my third party apps (cods) using BSAK and all are workiing fine. However Blackberry App World showed all but 7 of my 30+ third party apps as being uninstalled, eventhough all are installed and working fine. Have gradually been "reinstalling" these apps.

Try going into Blackberry App World then hold ALT and hit R S T. App World will then close and refresh your application list.

After a week with .600 -- not great, in fact occasional sudden drops in battery life; more than the occasional browser glitches; and overall sluggishness at times -- I reverted back to .246 (after some months with .546). MUCH better with .246! Sort of might miss the thumbnails in the browser for bookmarks and history, and the flashing charge light, but overall much happier to be back with .246!

Thanks for the tip Phil. It did indead force a refresh of my application list, but still shows as uninstalled a number of programs that are installed and working just fine.
I have now finally finished "reinstalling" my active programs.
One other glitch has surfaced. I use google maps as my primary map program, but over the weekend I was using a third party program which uses Blackberry Maps for an aspect of its program. It told me that Blackberry Maps was not available and when I checked, I do not have Blackberry Maps "uninstalled" or in my application list or anyway else on my Blackberry now. I cannot seem to install it separately either and have come to the conclusion that it is part of the operating system files that some forward. A search on Blackberry App World turns not get Blackberry Maps and is surprising unhelpful, as is the Blackberry.com web site. When I follow the link e-mailed to me by RIM to download Blackberry maps the site does not open at all on my torch.
Will try reloading .600 to see if that restores Blackberry Maps.

From Crackberry.com I was given the tip to use Desktop Manager then click on Applications. In the list of applications not loaded there was Blackberry Maps which I loaded up. However it took out a whole lot of other programs that do not show up on App World, such as Word to Go and related programs, a couple of radio apps, my third party theme among others. One step forward and ten back.

My Torch 9800 currently has version 6.0 Bundle 695, is there any benefit in updating it to Bundle 2475 or 2647?

If I do update, will it re-format the phone and will I have to reinstall all the applications, contacts, email settings, etc.

Cheers.

The features are generally the same when its the same major and minor version numbers (i.e. 6.0.x.x), however it will fix any known bugs or add security patches where required the higher the version. Many people on here believe "if it ain't broke don't fix it", while others want the "latest and greatest" operating system. Your mileage may vary!

The PROs of updating, is that RIM may have fixed an annoyance or feature that fails to work correctly, with the CON being that some people experience a whole new set of problems by upgrading. Again YMMV!

What happens during the update is a backup is created that includes your applications, contacts and e-mail settings. The Application Loader (apploader.exe) will backup the device, wipe the device down to the bare bones level, install the new operating system, re-initialize and restore the device. This whole process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, it's never a good idea to remove a device from the USB during this process as you may brick the device.

It's always the best idea to make a backup on your own of your blackberry in the event that the backup made by AppLoader.exe fails to work.

Good Luck,
--Phil

Not my experience. In addition to Vodaphone and AT&T having tested this version and adopting it, the no.1 and no.2 mobile phone operators in Canada, Rogers and Bell have also adopted .600. (Telus is back at .448)
Not sure if I am aware of the long list of bugs you refer to.

.600 has been horrible for me. It is sluggish as all get out and freezes at the most in opportune times. I will be reverting as soon as i can.

Having had to get a 9800 replacement, I immediately upgraded it to .600 before loading any data from previous phone, and over a few days it seems to be working well.

Different than my experience with previous 9800 where .600 and most other versions were too buggy and I stayed with .246.

Maybe goes to show that if 9800 updates are too buggy, backing up and then wiping the device before updating may be the key as inconvenient as it is?

I got a replacement 9800 from Rogers last week, came with 2647 (.600) by default and has been good since then.
