Default HELP! Lost my Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everyone, I lost my 8520 over the weekend and was wondering if there's any possible way for it to be tracked? By PIN perhaps since I understand this is specific to each Blackberry?

Thanks

Nope, simply not.

You would have had to load an application like SmrtGuard or Roblock on the device.

Just think, if you could do this ONLY by knowing the PIN of a BlackBerry, I could track anyone I know with a BlackBerry who's in my BBMessenger list. Even you. Scary.

Call your carrier and report it lost. Kill the SIM, etc.

Hey Thanks.

If whoever found it, wipes it and starts using it with a data plan, theoretically I should be able to PIN the device correct?

If I inform my service provider that it's lost, they should be able to flag it on their system right?. If so, does that mean at least whoever found it wont be able to use it on my service provider's network?

Oh btw, when I said if it were possibly to be tracked by PIN, I meant with the help of either service provider or RIM.

Make sure you report it ASAP. You are liable for all charges up until you report it as lost/stolen.

I don't think TMO will do much to block or blacklist the device.

Make sure you change all passwords for email and other accounts that you accessed with the device, especially any sensitive websites such as financial and banks.

Yes I've notified them. And Yes Dubdub, you might be right with TMO not doing much to block the device as the service rep I spoke to didn't inspire any confidence that much will be done on their end. Thanks!

From my experience, US carriers don't always block or disable the PIN. Some do.

Bottom line is you lost it, fuhgitaboutit. It's gone.

Sad but true.

Someone else will claim it as their own and come here looking for help.

So how many of you guys actually use SmrtGuard or Roblock as JSanders mentioned above? Are they effective?

I have Roblock. Luckily have never needed it.

The company was originally Dexmobile, and now is Vapssky.

When it was Dexmobile, I had no problems connecting via the web interface with my phone. After Vapssky took over (or whatever happened), it is not very reliable in connecting. Right now it's been trying for a few minutes to connect and is just not connecting. If I had to try to wipe my phone, I'd hate to just watch it trying to connect. I actually can't remember being able to connect to the phone the last few times I've tried.

I believe the text messaging wipe works ok, but you have to have some other cell phone setup as the phone to send the wipe command. Fine if you're in a position to be able to contact that person when you need to.

I think try the demo version to see if it works for you before buying. I'd probably not get Roblock when I get a new phone. They were extremely slow to respond when I had problems on the install, and since the web interface is not reliable, I'd try one of the alternative programs.

I just installed SmrtGuard, it's free and I hope I never have to use it. When you log into their website with your account, it has a map and shows you where it is and has the KILL functions, tracking, remote listening, etc all on the website.

Seem like a nice app, again, hope I never need it.
