GPS w/Rogers BOLD
Please Login to Remove!
This is my first experience with an unlocked phone. I'm using Rogers BOLD with my AT&T sim. Will the GPS function? Do I need to download any additional app?
Thanks,
Frank

Nope. I'm using Google Maps, Blackberry Maps and Live Search all with GPS working. I just upgraded my OS to .162 and I noticed that I now have an ATT Navigator icon, so apparently there must be a ATT navigator software that you can download and install, but I haven't done that nor will I do it. I also have an unlocked Rogers Bold on ATT. Zero problems.

Does anyone know where/how I can download ATT Navigator for my Rogers BOLD?

Mine just showed up after I installed the latest Rogers OS, but try asking ATT to add it to your service books, then re-download your service books.

Yep. Go to AT&T (or call them) and have them update your account with the Bold's IMEI. That should trigger the system to send down service books, including AT&T Navigator.
Though, in my opinion, Navigator stinks. It's $10.00 per month and just isn't very good. Garmin, on the other hand, is a $100.00 one time purchase, and is exactly like the traditional vehicle GPS units they make.
If you want to try AT&T Navigator, while you are talking with AT&T, make sure they add the 30 day trial to your account.

My response would be the same. Not paying AT&T for Navigator @ $10 a month when the Garmin for BlackBerry is even a better solution at a fixed one time charge of $100. Google Maps, BlackBerry Maps, Garmin, Windows Live Search & Poynt all sit in a folder I created I call GPS. I probably use the Garmin & Google the most.
I did see a YellowPages icon get sent via service books last week. I wasn't that impressed. It seems to be a VERY slow application. And I really didn't see anything it gave me that I didn't get from Google, Windows Live, Garmin or Poynt.
If Navigator shows up in a service book, it will get hidden with all the other AT&T junk services.

Does Windows Live have a proper Bold icon? I'm becoming increasingly anal with my purchase of the Bold!

Handango coupon: LUCKY20 gets 20% off the order. It drops Garmin Mobile for Blackberry Bold 9000 down to $79.

Yes, there are icons for Windows Live search and Messenger. You have to install the apps yourself.

Yep, and it's version 5.0.4. The trial from Garmin's site is only 5.0.2. Not sure what the difference is, but it's newer from Handango.

I mean do the icons fit the new look of OS 4.6? Garmin's icon has been updated for OS 4.6, as has Viigo. What about Windows Live Search?

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'll give Garmin a try, and thank you Spazmogen for the LUCKY20.

Well.. I found out the difference. The 5.04 is linked to Handango. Getting a Garmin activation code and then downloading 5.04 will cause you to need to re-register with a Handango Activation code. Functionality wise, there is no difference that I can find.
Stay with the latest version available from where you are told to download the code in your activation e-mail.
The good news on this... is I updated from version 5.01 to 5.02 and the re-activation to the server was automatic.
I'm enjoying the interactive features of this product more and more. the stand alone features are great on those units. However, Garmin has linked to the internet very well in this BlackBerry version. For example, when searching for favorites and looking for gas/petrol it will find the closes stations and list them by price of what ever grade of fuel you choose. I can do flight status from here as well. The internet integration seems to be done very well. And if you don't match up with any of the Garmin POI, there is a link inside the program to Google and you can use their catagory search to link to a POI and calculate a route.

Yep... really enjoying this software. Works very well, and the interactive/live features are very nice... something I have not had on my stand-along GPS units.

Check to make sure correct TCP settings have been entered, and that Network options in Livesearch is set to Direct HTTP with everything else on that screen as N/A. I had the same problem previously..
